I want to put this vise on a small shelf/bench made with 2x6 top and 2x4 "legs" that are screwed into the studs. I don't expect anything more than light duty use as a third hand and to help bend small tubing. Think some lag screws will be enough to hold it?

Should be fine. I would use through bolts w/ washers and nuts just to be safe. Worst case, use lag bolts until you have an issue and swap out to through bolts.

Thanks. I think the heaviest thing it'll hold will be scrap wood for quick cuts with the circular saw.

My free advice. Go to Home dEpot and look at the GRK-RSS screws in 5/16" dia. In my opinion better than any common lag bolt except maybe the Spax versions, but I still would go with the GRKs.

Do it right once, rather than do it "maybe good enough" and then have to re-do it.
I'll probably have to redo it someday, but then again I do plan to build a bench dedicated for heavy work that will include place and support for a bigger vise. This one, being my grandpa's, is going to see light duty use so it'll last at least until my grand kids can use it. Plus, the bench it's on is really nothing more than a glorified shelf for setting car parts and tools on while I'm under the hood. Below is a simple drawing of it - triangle frame supports out of 2x4s and a couple two 2x6s resting on top. It's 4' long and only supported on two studs. Like I said, really light duty work.

Never heard of those. The holes support 3/8". Do they come in that size?
