Reverse the curse - left hand screw to right hand threads

I'm not even sure this is possible (or necessary) but has anyone ever heard of someone who converted a left hand screw to accept right hand threads?

    Arbor day...Ryobi circ saw problems

I just got the P507 61/2" cordless saw and while the motor works great I can't free the arbor screw to save my life. I used the spindle lock and turned the allen wrench as hard as I could in the "lefty-loosey" direction but got nowhere. I tried to use my impact driver on it with no luck. I...

    It's a tool! It's a gimmick! It's a Father's Day Gift!

With Father's Day rapidly approaching I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share with the forum their tool gifts either as sender or recipient that most would qualify as a gimmick tool (e.g. Cman Mach series, Kobalt offerings). My dad got me one of those multiwrenches by Cman that has...

    Socket to me! Drives question.

Does anyone know why sockets come in 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" and 3/4" (most common drives)? Why no metric drives (10mm, 15mm, 20mm for example)? Why no 5/8" drive? Truthfully I am just curious.

    Hourglass figure

So I went to my local Ace Hardware yesterday and they had a series of USA made screwdrivers on discount for $2.99 and I came across a screwdriver type I had never seen before. The tip looked like an hourglass in cross-section and I've not encountered a screw type that this would fit. Any ideas...

Shorty got low, low, low...sockets that is.

Anyone have any experience with low clearance sockets? Just saw a set at O'reilly in SAE and in metric for $24.99 that look really nice but since I have ratcheting wrenches do I need these?

    Vice Squad

A quick question for all the machinists out there - what would you say is the most important thing you look for in a vice? Since I do mostly woodwork with a little DIY mechanics/metal/plastics work, I really have no clue what would be a decent homeowner's vice to work with pipe.

    CFM requirement variability

This is a question that has been vexing me for quite some time. How is it that two air tools of similar make and design have significantly different CFM requirements? For example, the Dewalt air grinder versus the Kobalt air grinder - the former only needs 3 CFM (reportedly) while the latter...

    US ain't!

Are there any USA tool brands that are generally low quality, I mean like worse than India quality? I'd love to buy domestic but I've settled for Taiwan, Germany, and Switzerland without regret so if I have to buy American, what shouldn't I try?

Throwing a wrench into the works...

I've been doing a lot of thinking about what wrenches I still need - I have most of the common metric sizes from 5mm up to 20mm and the equivalent SAEs but none of them are ratcheting or flex-head. If I had to buy either of these types, would I be better off buying an entire set or just buying...

    OBD, life goes on...

Since I've grown tired of not knowing what's wrong with my car and having to rely on others to get it fixed, I've decided I'd like to have an OBD II scanner so at least I know what is wrong. I wouldn't need anything too fancy (no $1000 scanners for me!) but not too simple (one that just tells...

    Bit by bit...

Here's a general question: is there a reason for me to purchase a bit socket set (meaning driver bits that are fitted into a socket) if I have a 1/4" bit adaptor for driver bits? I was looking at the Husky set at HD for around $25 and they seem decent but do I need it?

    3/4" ratchet question

If all I plan on working on is my wife's Grand Caravan and my Elantra, do I need a 3/4" ratchet? My 1/2" ratchets seem plenty for the lugs on both vehicles.

On your Mach, get set, go?

Anyone have any experience with the Craftsman Mach series of ratchets/wrenches? They look nice and feel nice but I don't know if they offer superiority versus my other ratchets/wrenches.

    Yankee Doodle Driver

Does anyone know where I might find a Yankee driver? It's sort of a brace married to a screwdriver. My dad used to have one but I, er, sort of kind of broke it about 20 years ago. Now that I'm getting into woodworking, I remember how easy it was for more sensitive work so I'd like to have...

    Step up to Step-Ups?

Okay, here's a question I hope someone can answer - is there a best maker of step-drill bits? I've seen Milwaukee, Irwin, Craftsman, and Harbor Freight and they all sort of look alike. I suspect the titanium nitride ones will hold up longer but I don't actually know. Anyone have experience...
