How do i level a cork subfloor?

Background: i had previously glued down 1/2" cork to concrete basement floor. We had put some rugs down but never did anything with it otherwise. Fast forward several years, we are now inclined to put down flooring, ideally LVP. I thought we had a pretty flat resulting floor, until we went to...

    Floor cover options over cork?

This will be for the basement, poured concrete. Years ago, in an effort to insulate the cold floor so the kids could have a designated play area, I glued down sheets of 1/2" cork then we just put some rugs over that to protect it. Now we are looking to put an actual finished floor in there, over...

    Dryer electrical issue

My daughter alerted me that the (electric) dryer wasnt working right. I went to investigate, got a faint smell of electrical. Chimney cap refinishing

I have a metal custom-sized chimney cap - basically they took a sheet of metal, layed it over the entire top of the chimney, broke it over each edge, then cut a hole in it for the covered vent to sit in. The metal has started to rust as it appears that there's no slope to it, and water will pool...

Looking for recommendations for firepit adhesive

I recently built an outdoor firepit out of concrete pavers. Now I'm at the point of adhering the firebrock to the pavers. The dude at menards said to use refractory cement. I mixed a small batch and put 5 firebricks in place as a test run. I stacked some bags of mulch up against them to hold...

    Filling gaps in hardwood floors

My house has the older-style oak boards, 2 1/2in wide. These were installed with 1/16" gap in between each board. Maybe that was the look 20 years ago, but I tire of dirt and debris settling in these cracks. Along with this, of course I have some scratches and marks. I got a quote to sand and...

What type of hinge is this?

I want to use something like this to put on the wall, pull down, put shoes on it intermittently. It looks like the hinge has a horizontal piece that limits the movement of the wood piece anything past 90°. Is there a particular name for this type of hinge so that I can locate it?

Go to "first unread" not an option?

Most, if not all of the other forums i've been to have an option to go to the 'first unread' message of a thread, usually when viewing from the subscribed-threads page. Best option that seems to be here is the last page. Any chance that could become an option?

How to remove chrome from wrenches?

I'm doing some craft-like projects with some old, cheapy wrenches. I don't want the chrome look on them. I've had some luck with heating them, letting them cool, then running them on the wire wheel. Any easier / better way to do this?
