Finding center of large i-beam web without specialized tools?

I know they make special squares that have a little step so you're referencing the flat part of either flange (and not the curvature where the flanges meet the web). How would I do this if I didn't have access to that specific tool? I simple tape measure doesn't work because if you're...

Resources on how to read and decipher blueprints for fitting and fabricating metal?

I'm looking for something more than a 15 minute Youtube video. Something more comprehensive.

Why does Europe get the black Packouts and North America gets the red Packouts?

I'd much prefer black. It doesn't draw unwanted attention.

Want to run a mig welder off inverter off truck battery.

I don't have the welder or the inverter. So, I'm looking for advice on what to look for when purchasing those so I can make this happen. Reason is that I need to do some welding where I cannot run a power cord. The thickest material I'll be welding will be 3/8" (or 1/2" with multipasses.) PS...

    Tarp as truck bed cover.

Trying to do things on a budget so even though a roll up cover would be ideal, I can make the tarp idea work for a tenth of the cost. I'm looking for tarp recommendations. Also, ideas on how to secure the tarp. I'm thinking either industrial strength Velcro or 3m DualLock. Worried about how...

What are you opinions on Cr-V IMPACT sockets?

"Traditionally" impact sockets are made of Cr-Mo steel. But, mfgrs like Tekton and Amazon brands like Casoman, EPAuto, and Mayouko offer impact sockets in Cr-V steel. I hear Cr-V is harder than Cr-Mo and rough on impact wrenches. True or no?

Everything else being equal, how much more torque can 1/2" drive take compared to 3/8" drive?

Say there are two breaker bars. Every part of the bars is the same except for the square drive part where the socket attaches.

Do regular handle-less pry bars work just as well for automotive use?

"Automotive" pry bars have the handle and sometimes the striking cap. How many times is striking required during prying? Wouldn't something like a pinch bar work just as well if you're not striking? Bonus is the other end can be used to align shafts and holes.

Opinions on the BRUSHED M12 tools?

Came across a good deal on a drill + impact driver combo with lots of batteries. Is is better to save up for the brushless stuff?

Snap-on 8" Talon Grip FlankJaw Slip-Joint Pliers. Useful or not?

https://shop.snapon.com/product/Combination-(Pliers)/8%22-Talon-Grip%E2%84%A2-FlankJaw%E2%84%A2-Slip-Joint-Pliers-(Red)/HJ47ACF They seem useful. I mean they're like an adjustable wrench and flat nose plier combined into one. If I wanted a truely minimalist toolkit for the vehicle, I could just...

How do you store your PPE?

I have a whole bunch of extras that I'm not actively using on a daily or even monthly basis. Coveralls, hardhat, spare safety goggles, respirator filters, disposable masks and gloves. Should I just toss them in a cheap tote or are there any other clever ways of storing these?

Good quality 1/2" square to (keyless) drill chuck adapter.

Would like to use an M12 stubby 1/2" impact wrench to also do drilling duties.

Welding pliers necessary for MIG welders?

I saw a few in the local tool store and they were all subpar. Loose joints, cutters not closing tight, etc. I've heard of people getting by with 8" needle nose pliers.

    Channellock Nutbuster vs Knipex Raptor.

At almost twice the price (at least here in Canada), are the Raptors twice as good as the nutbusters? I want to have a pair of these pliers in case I run into a seized bolt on automotives.

[Welding] Help me understand the relationship between wire speed and voltage.

Noob welder here. Workplace has high duty cycle machines. No matter who explains it to me, I'm still having trouble understanding how wire speed and voltage settings work together to give me the proper weld.
