Compact 3/8" torque wrench for Subaru EJ 25 spark plugs?

I need a cheap, 3/8" or even 1/4" drive, compact click torque wrench for my spark plugs. The EJ 25 is in a Vanagon, so has more clearance, but it still ain't much. Cheap because this is the only need I have for it. In the past, I've always been fine with the old rule of "finger tight plus one...

    Vanagon spare tire mount

My original plan was to make some kind of swing-away spare mount. Then I realized where the license plate was. Move the plate. Then move the plate lights--Oregon cops are touchy about that. Screw it. Mount the damned spare inside. It's just tacked together in the last two pics. It got...

    ID these stubby combos?

These two partial sets were part of a huge end-wrench haul a couple of weeks ago: The only markings are the size and CrV on the other side: They're very well made and finished, with beautiful chrome plating. I just wish the sets were complete....

Building a bed for a camper Van--bad decisions and polishing a turd.

Where to start? My new Vanagon, the Brick, needs a bench bed instead of the fold-out "Rock-and-Roll" bed it came with. Why? The R&R bed takes up too much space and weighs... a lot. I was barely able to move it from the Van to my storage unit by myself. It's also incredibly uncomfortable to sleep...

Sound dampening enclosure for an air compressor?

We're moving this compressor: From the shop, where it's shoe-horned in behind a bunch of **** and makes working in the shop almost impossible when running. That'll be fun. A couple of floor jacks should get it out to where I can get to it with the forklift. Here's where it's going: The...

Elgi EN7-125 compressor--anyone have any experience?

We're looking at buying a used Elgi EN7-125, 10hp compressor set-up. It has a 110 gal. reservoir, VFD and air dryer. It also has 12K hours on the clock. With an output of 39 cfm, it would handle our needs quite well. I'm trying to find a maintenance manual for it, so far without success. Any...

    Giant abrasive haul!

That I can't use: Buddy found these at the local dump. Say's there's a semi-trailer-load up there. He grabbed a few unopened boxes for me. His picture: I hope he checked out that mashed toolbox. I no longer have a die grinder to use these with. If anyone wants to come out to Wallowa...

VW Vanagon road tool box recommendations?

I'm hoping to be heading to Portland, OR area sometime in the next two weeks to pick up a new-to-me 1990 Vanagon Caret (2wd) w/1999 Subby Impreza RS EJ 2.5L engine. I'll take winter tires on rims to put on it before driving back to far NE Oregon--we have a couple of nasty interstate passes on...

Building the You Tube compressor intake silencer--read before you build!

I was looking to buy an intake air silencer/muffler for our monster recip DeVilBliss back-up compressor. Sound levels in the shop when it's running vary from the high 90s to the low 80s. I hate having to wear ear protection over my ear protection when sitting at my desk. Several of the replies...

Best (not) bang-for-the-buck compressor intake silencer/muffler?

Our vintage DeVilBliss 2-stage comp drives me nuts when it's running. I can feel my brain rattling around in my skull. My desk is about eight feet from the comp. I've narrowed the majority of this noise down to the intake. Shopping around it seems anywhere from $25 for unpronounceable MIC to...

Dumb compressor question o' the day

We've been worried about the health of our IR UP6-5-125 5 hp rotary screw comp w/80 gallon reservoir. Either we have some serious leaks around the brewery that I can't find, the comp is not outputting enough air--but used to--or it's something wrong with our canning line that keeps shutting down...

What has the world come to?

I had to order a new actuator for one of our powered louvers today: Grainger was WAY cheaper than anywhere else! When did this happen? I've always used Grainger when bidding out a job, then bought elsewhere to come in under bid and make myself look good. I guess that won't work now.

I found this Elora double-end 3/8" L-wrench today: First double-ender I've seen of any make.

Ingersoll Rand UP6 scroll comp leaking oil?

Howdy. We have an Ingersoll Rand UP6-5 scroll comp. We've had it for a decade or so. I recently did the 2,000 hr. filter/coolant/oil replacement and lately I've noticed it is losing oil into the air reservoir. It has produced nearly oil-free air up until recently. It also doesn't seem to be...

    Electrochemical problem--need suggestions!

I'm not sure where to post this, but this seems closest--it's about metal. I picked up a 220E yesterday--not on purpose, but I really wanted the shop-made case it came in and the seller wouldn't break them up: Anyway, it's pretty nice 220E and I'd like to get it cleaned up and ready to move...

    Owner's marks--Provenance?

I see that most of you all consider a tool pretty much ruined if it bears owner's marks. It's interesting, as in my other collecting obsession--Coleman GPAs--owner's marks are considered provenance and folks will go to extremes to chase down and document any info on the PO. Voter's rolls...

    Pipefitting question

I need to add a 2 1/2" union to a 2 1/2" Nom. iron pipe--and I need it to come out the same length is was before I cut it. How deep do I figure for thread engagement? I'll be borrowing a power threader to cut the threads.

Tubular Micrometer Company (TUMICO)--let's see 'em!

I picked this one up for near-free today: It's obviously intended for inside measurement of tubes and/or rings, but why does it read backwards? From my pathetic Google search, Tubular Micrometer Company became Sherr-Tumico around '42.
