TG-100 collets--are they useful compared to others?

I found a set of TG100 collets at a local online auction and I'm wondering if they would be useful in my lathe or milling machine. There are other items in the auction lot that I want, but if TG100 collets would be worth getting, that can make a difference in how high I bid. From what I find...

Unexpected plane in a Toolbox purchase

I bid on and won a Kennedy tool box and contents at a local online auction this week. I decided the tool box was worth having and the set of drill bits helped justify my bid. Imagine my surprise when I got it home and found an early (type 2?) Stanley 110 "shoe buckle" block plane. It's...

    Saw sets!

I've been sorting/organizing my tool collections lately and this week I got out some saw sets and started labeling them and sorting out duplicates to get rid of. I thought that a couple of pictures showing a range of styles of saw sets might be helpful (don't want @Old Man Roger missing any...

    Unidentified small grinder (?)

I haven't found a better thread to put this in, so I'm asking if anyone know what this little grinder might be used for. My first thought was sharpening drill bits, but it's too inaccurate and light weight. Gears are all stamped sheet steel, the two grinding wheels turn in opposite directions...

    More valve grinders

After reading all the discussion about valve grinders in the garage sale and Lugzonia threads, I thought I'd post a pic of 2 of mine here, rather than add to either of those threads. These are both usable as combination valve grinder/breast drills-- Blanchard, on the left (US Patent: 963,986)...

Yankee Ridge ratcheting open end stainless steel wrench

Sorting through a drawer of wrenches, I found this stainless steel open end "Yankee Ridgid" wrench that appears to have a "ratcheting" function. The patent number on it is for a die casting method, not the wrench design. Anyone know anything about this?

    Lathe face plate thread 1 1/2" x 10tpi ?

I have a 6" faceplate that has 1 1/2" by 10tpi threads. It came with a bunch of lathe related tools etc that fit my Atlas and South Bend lathes and I assumed it was also 1 1/2x8tpi but it's not. It is considerably larger than 1 1/4" also, which I found mentioned as a possible size used in some...

Help ID plastic gear set?? Maybe lathe?

These plastic gears came with a bunch of machinist related items at a local auction, and I think that they might be change gears for a cheap imported lathe. Any ideas? Center hole is about 7/16". I don't want to throw them out if they might be of use to someone.

    2hp Valley grinder??

A local online auction has a "Valley" 2hp 240 volt single phase (maybe 10") grinder listed. Anyone have any knowledge or experience with this brand, Valley Electric Corp., St.Louis? It looks old, what I have found online suggests it was made after 1938.

Center rest for 12 inch Atlas Craftsman lathe

I'm looking for a center rest for my 12 inch Atlas/Craftsman lathe. I can trade a center rest for a 10 inch Logan lathe for it or buy it outright.

    Brick steps, cover with metal??

I have some brick steps leading to one door of my house. These steps take a lot of maintenance as any water that freezes deteriorates the mortar and plants start to sprout, etc., so I am thinking of using some kind of tread and nosing covering. I have seen some fairly substantial metal...

Milwaukee 12 volt tools ?? not cordless

Anyone ever come across any of the Milwaukee 12 volt tools from the 1960s? I have a copy of a ca1967 Milwaukee catalog that has a page of 12 volt tools that ran on a cord from either a vehicle battery or a similar battery housed in a metal box with attachments for the cord. I seriously looked...

    Sunroom flooring questions

We're redoing a failing wooden deck that is roofed over. It is open on 2 sides but we are considering making it into a 3-season space with some kind of screens/windows, but our more immediate question is about flooring. My wife wants smooth flooring, not spaced decking, and we found some nice...

Weather proof roof under a deck

We have a back porch about 10 by 12 feet that has a second floor deck above it and we would like to enclose the porch to make more of a sun room out of it, and need to have a good roof for it that doesn't take up any space. I found a product Rain Tight Decks that looks interesting. Rain Tight...

    Bump Paper Fastener

I found this interesting device while sorting stuff that I am moving. It's marked "Bump Paper Fastener, LaCrosse, Wis, USA" and "Patented 6-24-13". It fastens sheets of paper together without staples by punch a small triangular hole and folding the bit of paper over, holding the sheets...

    Flea markets in Colorado???

We're going to be visiting our son and grandson in Colorado this spring (he's in Pueblo), and I'm looking for suggestions for flea markets to check out in the area. Pueblo would be easiest, but we will probably make it to Colorado Springs at least once, and we fly in and out of Denver. Any...

    Scrubbing new floor?

The concrete slab for my new shop was poured last April (2020) and after lots of slowdowns and material problems it is closed in and will get interior paint in a few days. I'm thinking that it wouldn't hurt to really clean the floor before we start moving tools etc into the building. The floor...
