    Welding table idea

Found this on MarketPlace near me. Around 500+ pounds, 42”x34” with 1” solid plate top and shelf below. It has 4x3 tube steel legs. Wilton 646 vise was mounted on the top, I’ll clean that up and repaint. Table and vise for $100, can’t beat that price. I weld-filled the vise holes and got it...

how to unlock a vidmar (LIsta) cabinet?

We got a locked vidmar at auction, no keys unfortunately. Doesn't appear there's much inside, but what's the best way to open it with no key? I see holes near the back on the underside, is there a way to access the latch from that? Or am I stuck with trying to drill out the lock?

    Storage platform framing question

I have an attached garage with workspace on our new build house. One of my requirements for the new build was basement access from the garage. Love it, can't imagine being without the basement stairs from the garage after this. But one thing it does create is some 'dead space' in the upper...

    Anvil owners help please!

I've been doing historical research on anvils for a few years now, an effort to keep going where the book "Anvils In America" left off. With the internet, there is now so much more possible with photos and sharing of information than what Mr. Postman had when doing his research. Besides...

Make the shop an even cooler place to be....

The "big tools" thread someone mentioned the big anvil I restored as a showpiece or centerpiece for a room or shop. I love old tools and equipment, I do a lot of blacksmithing and I'm especially captivated by old anvils and their history. As an idea for other people here to make some kick-***...

    Big ol' anvil find, Sisco.

Here's a 495# anvil I recently jumped on for a screaming deal. The seller did not know what he was selling...... It was my lucky day and saw the ad within minutes of it being posted. A blurry picture of an anvil shaped object that you couldn't tell anything from. All the ad said was, "500...

    Sometimes dumpster diving pays off...

My friends get on my case about always looking through junk piles and metal dumpsters searching for treasures. I find lots of great stuff, but today was a new one on me. Looking through a metal dumpster for anything interesting, I noticed the corner of a vise! After doing some uncovering...

When it rains big vises, it pours big vises....

So I just got done cleaning up that gorgeous Wilton 800S last night and still tickled and giddy over the deal I got on it. Tonight after work I'm working out in the garage cleaning up some items I'm going to list on CL, an older gent walking his dog who comes through occasionally stops and we...

    Wilton 800S 8" vise!

So I went up to visit my parents in far northern Wisconsin this past weekend. When I make trips like that I usually check the local CL ads for that area to see if I might be interested in something, as long as going there anyway….. I buy and sell anvils from time to time, and noticed a CL ad...

    Prentiss vise ID help

I have this Prentiss vise, to me it looks like the swivel jaw type but is missing the lock pin. I've had it for a very long time and got it for next to nothing way back when. I was cleaning it up with a wire brush this week in hopes of selling it. The rear jaw is frozen in place, not sure...
