    The Garagenous Zone

FWIW, I used PEX for air compressor lines in the walls to 10 locations in my garage. All are home-runs back to a manifold. Usual pressure in lines is 80-100psi. Built the garage 11 years ago and have had no issues or leaks.

    Epoxy your concrete driveway?

BMW, One other thing to consider is using colored concrete. With a blacktop drive I wanted an area for power washing etc that wouldn't ruin the blacktop so I had a 10'x16' pad poured outside of the side garage door and had them put a brown dye in it so the muck and dirt wouldn't show so much...

4350 sq ft driveway - concrete or asphalt?

Agree wholeheartedly. think that's why mine has held up so well. I'm in the woods and have a pretty good hill coming down to the house so concrete really wasn't considered. FWIW, was recently quoted $5900 to do about 4700sf of new drive with 2 1/2" airport mix from the same guy who did my...

4350 sq ft driveway - concrete or asphalt?

FWIW, I have a seven year old blacktop drive, 1100' long with circle in front of house and 35x50 turnaround at the side garage. About 2 1/2" of airport mix Blacktop was put down over a well compressed stone base (~4-5"). A close friend who's been a blacktop paver operator for 30 years says seal...

    Pictures of radiant tubing installed

Thanks its slowly but surely coming together. Sure picked up a LOT of good tips here. The DOW board is STYROFOAM® Brand R-15 Square Edge 3x24x96 on top of 6 mil vapor barrier. Poured 6" of 4000psi concrete on top. As it was 101F today it seems it'll be a while until I get to see how it works!!!!

How are you providing hot water to your garage?

I have a 30 gallon tank that hooks into the boiler I use for the radiant heating -- I think it uses an integral heat exchanger in order to keep the radiant system closed. No shower here either. Problem with an "open" system as I understand it is you couldn't use antifreeze in it.

    Radiant heat questions

The guys doing the concrete ("they") are my contractor's crew so they're pretty versatile. The plumber left a kit with fittings and tools to fix any breaks -- along with a stern warning to be very careful wheeling the concrete so they didn't have to use it!

My plumber just used air to pressurize the syatem during the pour -- he's done over a hundred of radiant heat floors.

    Radiant heat questions

As I understand it, the most common (although infrequent) cause of a tubing problem during the pour is someone cutting the tubing with the block above the tire used for dumping the concrete. If they get a puncture they can quickly pull up the affected hose, patch/repair, and get on with the...

    Radiant heat questions

BMW, Just having those components installed now. Here's what I've got so far: (I'll get a better shot tonight) Most of the peices are there. Went with Buderus boiler (white box on top) that vents directly to the outside, black control box underneath then tubing manifold at bottom. Off to the...
