    Southern Illinois 48x80 build

Just got some new garden hoses. The wheels came off of my welding rig. They were replaced under warranty and the dealership let me keep them. I’ve had them sitting in the back of the building for a while. Finally got them put up and out of the way.

It has been a while, but the “garage” is still a work in progress.

    Above 1200 Sq/FT 48x80 progress

Been working a lot the last year on the house we built so my “garage” has been on the back burner until now. The last few weeks it has gone from a messy, unorganized catch all to something i can actually use. Even my son is organizing his tools in his new tool box.

Thanks a lot! I’m building just south of Carlyle Illinois. I used to work over in olney. I’m a pipeline welder but worked for Illinois gas co for a short while.

So far it is a really nice product. It went on really easily with a roller and i can’t tell at all where i started a section, let it dry then started again. It took us 2 days get it all done. It’s not going to hold up like and epoxy would and i understand that, but i wanted to get some sort of...

My 60x100 dream shop in the making

You’re not taking into account the end walls bracing the building as well. I’m not arguing for or against, just wanted to point out that the math you posted is for a building that has no end walls.

We’re building a house next. We chose to build the shop first so we would have a place to stage material and finally get all of our stuff in one place. We’ve needed a “garage” like this for some time.

Done for now. Gonna have the electrical contractor put the panels in when they set the meter on the shop wall and run temporary power for the house. Hopefully going to start digging the basement in a couple weeks.

    Looking into Steel I-beam 50 x 80

Yeah, me too. My biggest surprise was all the rock. I have over 500 tons of rock under my slab. I was on a slight hill and it ended up being more of a hill than i thought. Lol

Started hanging the lights. I have 14 150w ufo lights and 6 flush mount 60w lights (in loft area). I ended up going with some valspar wet look concrete sealer. It’s what the local lumber yard stocks. It was supposed to take 10 gal to do the floor but i feel like I’m putting it on fairly heavy...

    Looking into Steel I-beam 50 x 80

Just an FYI, i have almost $50,000 in my concrete and rock alone. I have 4’ foundation walls (12” above the slab) and a 6” thick slab. I underestimated what the rock and concrete would cost me by almost 10,000.

    Looking into Steel I-beam 50 x 80

I just built a 48x80 with almost the exact same use as yours. I almost didn’t put a drain in for the camper but am very happy i did! Roughed in a bathroom and absolutely happy with putting 4x4 windows on every wall. Makes a huge difference with that much natural light coming in.

Have made a little progress. All of the exterior metal is up i just haven’t been home to take pictures of it yet. The overhead doors are going in this week or next and the ceiling is going in as well. I pulled all the wire for the 14 ufo lights I’ll be putting in as well as the 6 recessed lights...

    Southern Illinois 48x80 build

That’s funny! I’m from about 2 hours west of Vincennes. I actually worked in Olney for a while a few years ago. Yes, a shed around here is anything except a house or barn. LOL thank you very much for the compliment!

Thanks a lot! We have a 5th wheel camper, boat, side by side and I have a few older tractors i like to waste time and money on. Planning on being able to store all of that and still have room to work on something without having to move stuff out of the way.

    Southern Illinois 48x80 build

Started the build of our shed about a month ago. Everything is moving along and I’m getting more and more excited every day! Dimensions are 48’x 80’ with 15’ walls on top of 12” tall concrete. Slab is 6” thick, walk doors are all 36” doors, windows are all 48”x48”, large overhead door is a 20’...

    Best 4' level made!

Looks like I'll be buying stabila levels. I hate cheaping out on something and end up spending the big money eventually anyway. You get what you pay for.

    Best 4' level made!

Cool. Looks like the stabila levels do have a really good warranty. I've used the empire levels before and have worked with guys that swear by them. I found a set of stabila levels (torpedo, 24 and 48) for 250 plus 20 shipping. They even come with a case. I'm going to check out the empire...
