Is this space anything to work with?

Our house is on a steep hill. There’s currently a retaining wall that has been there since the late 70’s when the house was built that provides a parking space about the size of a one car garage. I’d love to finish this by completing the walls on three sides up to the same level and then...

Solar array installed on our roof thanks to SolarCity.

A little over a year after getting the panels put in, can you give us an update? How have they performed? Did they meet the estimated production that Solar City quoted you? Any issues?

Garage/workshop-centric website that highlights interesting/unique real estate?

Nah, those are just some buildings I found for sale through a google search. The first one is one of a half dozen or so fire stations sold by Detroit last year. I know Chicago sold some city owned industrial buildings and former fire/police stations in the past couple of years as well. Most of...

Garage/workshop-centric website that highlights interesting/unique real estate?

I'm curious if there's anything like this out there. There are all sorts of real estate blogs that focus on historic houses and waterfront property, rural property etc...but is there anything that aggregates property like the kinds we all drool over here at GJ? I'm talking about a place that...

Solar array installed on our roof thanks to SolarCity.

Solarcity is a listed installer of SolarEdge, is there any reason they'd opt for a non-SolarEdge setup on a lease package if it's as great as you say it is?

    Lowes vs. Home Depot?

there are 3 Lowes and 1 HD near me, so I'm more likely to be near the Lowes...that being said, when I'm at the Lowes that is right next door to the HD, I don't really care which one I end up at.

    Uncle Tater's Garage

Love the whole project, and the ceiling looks fantastic. The wife wants me to steal that look for our bedroom renovation.

How would you feel if neighbors built a Giant Purple garage next to your property?

Meh, I'd rather look at that than a cookiecutter neighborhood. At the end of the day it's not my property and I doubt it affects the value of my house. The property across the street from our house has a giant blue half stable (picture a whole stable, then cut it in half but don't close the...

    Clever Sawtable System

that's really clever. Even without the ability to fold up, that seems like a pretty nice setup.

    what is your home heating

Not quite sure why you are so confident or emphatic that it's wrong. We've got a 2800 square foot foursquare farmhouse with no duct work in roughly half the house (including the entire 2nd floor). A heat pump and ductwork would run us over $10k (we got estimates when we moved in) and minisplits...

    what is your home heating

Oil fired boiler with hot water cast iron radiators in the center of the house, baseboard hot water in the master suite, and underfloor radiant in the kitchen augmented with a freestanding pellet stove. We pay way too much for heating oil but since there's no Natural Gas pipe out to our house...

Pouring concrete in a dirt floor cinder block garage?

Thanks for the replies on the finish etc. I've gone back to them with the request to adjust the quote with smooth finish, rebar/mesh in the pour, and a vapor barrier. I've also requested an additional quote with a 6" slab instead of the 4" just to see what the price difference would be.

Pouring concrete in a dirt floor cinder block garage?

sadly it's gone. I sold it about 2 years ago, before my son was born. A guy from New Jersey bought it and I haven't heard anything from him since the delivery guy took it away. It had a 70's 350/350th, a 78 camaro front clip, and most of the rest was stock. This is the truck I still have: 59...

Can a vapor barrier be put down if the walls and footers are already in place?
