    Made in Britain

Dave; Just a note to say I have a pair of Maun side cutters, had them for ages and they are my favourite pair, however I never knew the brand of them (obtained from my dad, who worked for BT, so they have BT on the jaws) so thank you so much for putting that list up, now I know I can get hold of...

    My first patch panel.

So far so good. You've got the right idea. Tell you what you've not got though, a gas sheild :P Shelter yourself from any wind that will blow away your sheilding gas and you'll start putting in proper welds :)

    Matt Makes.... well a mess.

Er yes, I tend to over-engineer things. Its made out of the 12mm because it was all little offcuts from an actual job (I actually get paid to stick bits of metal together, this is more hurried/slapdash to get it sorted for next weekend) This is why the base was made at work, and thus properly in...

    Matt Makes.... well a mess.

So. I may not have the fanciest of workshops, or all the correct equipment (slowing fixing that) but this is a throw together of stuff, to make a firebasket to sit around when camping. As long as it lasts over next weekend I'm happy. Anyone wondering about the two welders, cheap hobby MIG for...

    Anyone Identify This?

Funny pliars are fencing ones. Notice how the pliar end has a pointy ended jaw to get under the big staples and is curved to allow them to roll and get purchase when lifting old ones out. Hammer end is obvious :P As is the wire cutters in the handle closing.

    Homemade Tools

9" at work. No need for one at home. Use with slitting disks, grinding and softpad (big disk of sandpaper with seperate plastic backing, don't know what you guys call them across the pond) I would however, not go anywhere near a cupbrush made for a 9". We frequently use 4" in our workshop...

    Blacksmithing or Ornamental Iron Work

Now that table, that I like. Surely that'd be more under fabrication that smithing though? Unless you plan to add forged pieces of course, although I can't see how that would work with the I-beam style. Liking your work in the first post, outdoor forge looks fun, no regular rain I take it?

Mystery Tools That Need A Name

Jastech, your Ideal thingy looks like the sort of thing for chasing grooves in sheet metal for decorative repousse work. I can't remember the name of it though, sorry.

    Old stereo, new use!

Now why the ****** hell didn't I think of that?! Might have to steal this idea if you don't mind? :)

    Old stereo, new use!

Had a set up like this for ages. Why bother having a premade one? Thats far to boring. Really like that boat cover though, very nice. This is ages ago. When the corner of my workbench was tidy. And had less stuff on it. Thats a... er... I dunno what it was, but I cut a side off it made...

What Kind of Hammer is This?

How big is that? Sorry, from the UK so not familiar with that type/brand.

What Kind of Hammer is This?

A fair point about the mushrooming. I can't work out the scale of this thing, it could be for marking out decorative lines, but again shows little usage. I work for a blacksmiths, so I've seen a load of the stuff we have that could be similar to this. Either that or its simpley a cross-pein...

What Kind of Hammer is This?

Could be a blacksmiths hot cut chisel. The smith would hold the workpiece, and the handle of this tool, with the bladed end on the desired cutting place, and a striker would hit the flat end.

After 3 years of trying, I'm giving up on Mig welding.

I've always found a Shade 9 for Arc and #11 for MIG. But maybe thats just me? I can weld fine with those settings and no ill effects to me.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

First proper post after the introductions thing. I got to thinking whilst at work today and I realised how many vices we had there, so since no-one else was around to hinder me, I got the phone out and got snapping. Welcome to England, where I hope you like music 'cause I've got a whole load...

    New person from the UK

As thread title states really, I'm Matt, from England. I have a double garage, or rather access to (its my parents) but half of it is boarded out for my usage. It doesn't compare at all to the cool stuff/spaces people have here but I've been lurking for a bit and I'm loving all the cool stuff...
