Vintage Unisaw upgrades-Router Extension and rolling base

Yep I noticed that, and debated doing that for a long time, but I'm taller and with the extra 3 inches, it puts the top just below waist level, so it feels better right now. I'm going to see how working with it a while goes, and if it doesn't work for me, I'll probably lift it again and take...

Vintage Unisaw upgrades-Router Extension and rolling base

I also made legs for the router side out of 2" angle but somehow those pictures aren't on my phone anymore... I'll try to find them and post later.

Vintage Unisaw upgrades-Router Extension and rolling base

So I had all these elaborate ideas to make it easier to get the saw into the base but in the interest of sanity, I just hoisted the stupid thing... There were however some hairy moments of slippage and distraction... Love how it's always when you have something potentially life threatening...

Vintage Unisaw upgrades-Router Extension and rolling base

So that accomplished, what do you think was next... Right, it was super fun as a teeter-totter without legs, so time for a base... I needed wheels so... I could have bought one, but a lot of them had mixed reviews and didn't look that great, so I decided to make one... And vastly...

Vintage Unisaw upgrades-Router Extension and rolling base

I love my old unisaw, but as I was making cabinets for my woodshop, it became clear I needed more extension for the fence. And if you're going to add an extension, you might as well add a router table. So I found a commercial grade, vintage Biesemeyer fence on CL for cheap... It needed a lot...

Old concrete seems to fail the 'condensation test'... Don't seal it?

Thanks for the reply and advice... I've used densifiers in the past, but didn't think of that for this situation. Removing the planters probably isn't an option at this point. We don't really water there, so it was hard for me to believe there was enough water transfer to cause this, but we...

Old concrete seems to fail the 'condensation test'... Don't seal it?

The condensation was on the underside of the plastic... The moisture was coming up through the slab. The slab is about 6" above grade. There are planters on either side, concrete parking areas in the front and back. No water or drain lines I'm aware of. 2 ways of approaching cabinets...

Old concrete seems to fail the 'condensation test'... Don't seal it?

I'm about to build some cabinets for the wood side of my shop and wanted to seal the concrete under the cabinets. But I had some plastic down there under some cardboard boxes and it got pretty wet and moldy over a few months. I've read that if you get condensation through the concrete, you...

Horrific new slab pour, PROPER corrective action advise needed!

Yeah, I've actually had relatively good luck with contractors in Ca... It's heavily permitted and regulated here, so there isn't that much room for error. My experience happened in Austin... No permits required... The forming failed and I told them I wanted it torn out while it was still...

    Gramp's old Toolbox

Thanks Lugz... Yes, my mom took me to the WW2 memorial along with the Viet Nam memorial when I was a teenager... Even as a dumb punker, it was an awe-inspiring experience. Even included a bunch of Vietnam Vet Marines, and Army Vet's squaring off and shouting insults at each other (relatively...

Mounting an air compressor 18" from all walls?

Yeah, I actually was looking at something like this. It was a 27 gallon vertical portable, and did like 6.7 cfm @ 90. That's a little low for me on the CFM because I do a lot of D/A sanding and rotary cutting... But I also have an old Campbell Hausfield made in the USA compressor that has a...

Mounting an air compressor 18" from all walls?

Good points all. I really want to mount it outside in some sort of enclosure... That was the original plan. I live on an alley and can mount the compressor on the alley side. I just don't have a gate back there yet and I'd be worried about someone unbolting it and taking off. So I might...

    220v extension cord

Penny wise, pound foolish... At the end of the day, the amount of money you're saving making or buying an extension cord for the AC unit to run off that particular circuit, rather than just paying an electrician to run a dedicated line, probably isn't going to be enough to pay for the hastle of...

    220v extension cord

And the AC unit from burning up... I mean... I'm assuming this is some sort of small AC unit and not a large like 14 seer whole house thing. Those run on a couple breakers and the one for the heater might be 50 amp/240V. But for smaller A/C units, you want to make sure the breaker is sized...

    220v extension cord

50 amp is probably way too much for the A/C unit... You might have to wire in some sort of breaker. 20' is probably pushing it no matter what kind of material you use. I made an extension cord out of 3/3/5 romex for a temporary piece of equipment I had set up, but it was only about 12' and it...

West Coast Guys: Redwood studs/joists... Drywall or no?

Yeah, I was thinking about getting some of that white 2" foam board insulation and gluing it between the studs. better, but not quite as good as drywall, and I'd have to do surface mount electrical/Air... I know most guys are probably thinking I'm overthinking this, but I'm kind of a wood...

West Coast Guys: Redwood studs/joists... Drywall or no?

So I think this is mostly for West Coast guys... So my vision for my new shop has always included insulation and drywall... Currently, it's exposed studs and joists with tarpaper... Old-school, but dark. The studs are a dark brown color and I always assumed they were just pine or fir coated...

    Gramp's old Toolbox

Thanks for this! I'm definitely going to be keeping an eye out for a handle. Although I like the jump cord... He was with the Airborne in his final tour.

    Gramp's old Toolbox

Good ideas... I was thinking the same about using it to store his records... Although, I just had a feeling he'd have wanted me to use it as it was intended. My uncle tells me he had few tools and rarely used him. He was always in the Military and worked 6 days a week. He had cars but never...

Horrific new slab pour, PROPER corrective action advise needed!

The reality is, that's never going to be like a good solid pour would have been... It wouldn't pass inspection in a commercial setting and it won't be as strong or as long lived... That said, having gone through even a worse slab pour experience... One that did in fact involve lawyers and 2...
