Wall divider or no 20x40 shop

Yeah, I wanted a transparent door anyway... I hadn't even thought of using a transparent welding blanket. That's a cool and economical idea, especially in a space like mine that likely will never have AC... After all this talk, I'm thinking about moving the wall forward 4' and having a 20x16...

What the hell.. “Forgive our mess! Under Construction.” First is alley side, second is street side.

Wall divider or no 20x40 shop

Good idea. Hadn't thought about moving the wall back or forward a bit. it would be easy to do. I need to have a tiny office in there too somewhere so moving the wall would help that too. I do mostly hot rod stuff, with a little fine woodworking and electronics in there too. I figure I could...

Wall divider or no 20x40 shop

Good advice guys... Thanks. To add a little detail, when they built the addition on the back, they left the rafter area above the dividing wall open... So it may not be terribly good at dust control unless I seal it up somehow... But it may be worth it. I'm not planning on heat or AC in...

Wall divider or no 20x40 shop

Hi, My new shop started as a 20x20 that someone added another 20x20 to the back of... From the outside, it looks like a 20x40 shop, but inside, there's a wall in the middle that no longer bears load but divides the shop in half... Obviously, my first thought was to immediately rip it out and...

En-Suite Office... Or adding office space to your smaller-ish shop

Congrats! That's an amazing space, and kind of what I was hoping to achieve on a much smaller scale... I'd love to see how the little office is configured. If I could make 6x8 work, it would make things a lot easier to stomach.

En-Suite Office... Or adding office space to your smaller-ish shop

Yeah, my first thought was sort of mixed use/mobile space... Open to the workshop... But like you say, I think dust would be a constant problem. Office stuff is harder to clean than shop stuff. I thought about getting an old roll top desk... That might end up being my solution actually, but I...

En-Suite Office... Or adding office space to your smaller-ish shop

I always wanted at least a 20x40 foot Garage... Well the wife found me one and we moved back to So-Cal for it... Not really, but that's close enough for now... I also always thought it would be cool to have a little office in my shop... I work from home about 80% of the time and we share an...

ID this drill press. Worth 100 bucks

It's generic Chinese (if you can believe that.) I got the bench version of that for $20 on CL... So no. Although mine was in worse shape than that. (I had something I needed a DP for like yesterday and talked the guy down from $60). It's a POS but if all you did was wood or sheet metal work...
