    ICON Tool Boxes at HF

My store just got the ICON boxes in. Ignoring the price, the overall quality seems great. I want one, and I just bought a 56" top and bottom a couple years ago. I like how the drawers on the big box feel compared to my Series 2 56", and the lockers and hutch are a really nice configuration...

Help Me Choose - Tekton vs Icon

This is absolutely true. Tekton, Harbor Freight, DeWalt, and even Carlyle source their reverse ratcheting wrench sets from Hi-Five Ltd. in Taiwan. Just have one look at the selector switches, they're identical, I've even compared them with examples from my own collection to confirm. Other...

    Craftsman is getting around

I was at my local NAPA store a couple days ago, no Craftsman in sight, but they still had the same large Carlyle display I am familiar with. AFAIK, Carlyle and ICON use the same supplier, and many of their products, namely ratchets and ratcheting wrenches, are identical. If HF wasn't so close...

I picked up a Bosch MOT 250 today, looking for some ideas

My friends were cleaning out their shop to make some new space and they offered me this working Bosch MOT 250 engine analyzer. I have a bit of a reputation for being a vintage Volvo and Mercedes nerd, so they thought I could find some application for it. I have a general idea of what this...

    Wera Joker wrench..

I have the full set of metric Joker wrenches. I like them a lot, they're not my favorite, but not necessarily for the reasons other people say. What I dislike is the Wera styled center section, the slight bulge in the center looks cool, but can put you at a disadvantage in tight spaces. I...

Hey fellas... Can we have a mature discussion about tool brands?

Too bad my Chinese made Milwaukee tools are not as good as my USA made ones.

    Chinese tools and durability

I am a trade professional who specializes in restoration masonry and general contracting. Most of my heavy power tools that are in daily use are made in Germany or USA. My cordless stuff is all made in China and I have to replace them every few years. From my experience, Chinese made Ridgid...

US General series 2 part numbers

I have the one that doesn't let the drawers fully extend, I am not sure what model number it is, but it is the one people refer to as the inferior model. That said, it never really poses a problem for me. It's only like 1-2" at the very rear, where I keep all my long breaker bars anyway.

Hey fellas... Can we have a mature discussion about tool brands?

I'm going to disagree with you in a few specific areas. Not everything Harbor Freight sells is a winner, but they do have some quality products that are really quite good for the money. To preface, I am a craftsperson and building trade professional who services my own cars and trucks...

    Amazon warehouse deals Permathread

Considering how much I like my Wright Tools, this is a great deal. I wish I knew about it last year as I was setting up my garage for bigger projects.

    Tool box- Top Shelf Suggestions?

I keep specialty tools up there, stuff like my OBD2 scanner, compression tester, cam tools, etc. Lots of stuff in blow-molded cases that are slim and fit neatly together. I also keep one box with common fuses and relays for my "modern" car. (the only car I own with fuel injection). It's rare...

Harbor Freight Has Got to Rethink It's Parts Policy

I bought a Ridgid cordless brad nailer a few years ago, it broke after six weeks and two very small projects. The nailer was just super weak and couldn't drive brads very well. The manual said the product was "rebuildable," so I called them... "oh, we don't have a kit for that."

Icon tools are coming spring/summer 2019

I don't doubt that at all, but I find it interesting given all the effort they put into clearing out GW to make way for TEQ. All my local Advance stores still carry TEQ at the moment, so I wonder when this rollout will take place. I'm also curious to know what Home Depot is doing right now...

Icon tools are coming spring/summer 2019

I picked up the Icon metric reverse ratcheting stubby wrenches today using a 10% Super Coupon (no exclusions). I was out the door for $116, including tax. I took them home and they are really quite nice. I could not find any finish defects and the ratcheting mechanism works well. With my...

Icon tools are coming spring/summer 2019

Advance Auto sells TEQ, which is mostly Gearwrench under their house label. From my experience, if you bring a defective Gearwrench tool to Advance, you will receive an identical TEQ Pro tool as a replacement. Most of the old GW SKUs are the same as TEQ SKUs. Other tools under the TEQ banner...

    Let's see your toolbox.

I picked up a US General 26" base cabinet in blue the other day. A forklift dinged the corner and the manager marked it down to $199 for me. I spent more time looking for a hammer to straighten the corner than I did repairing it. Very minor damage, insignificant at best. Hardly damaged the...

Harbor Freight 26” Tool Chest - Price?

I just picked up a 26" bottom cabinet in blue for $199, open box since the forklift skimmed the corner as it was coming off the truck. Very minor damage, took me maybe 3 minutes to fix, most of the time I was looking for the right hammer. I would buy another one tomorrow if the same thing happened.

    Waterloo Branded Toolboxes Still Exist?

As far as I know, Waterloo was the main manufacturer for Craftsman, Husky, DeWalt, and Milwaukee tool boxes. My Husky box is definitely identical to my Waterloo of the same vintage. My only regret is not buying the remaining Waterloo USA made boxes my local heavy tool dealer had a couple years...

Any support for Tekton off ebay?

That's some quality service right there. Getting warranty support on my older Husky tools, and even new Ridgid tools at Home Depot is a nightmare, enough to turn me away from both brands.

    Lowe’s out of touch

Most of my local Lowes stores are in rural areas with a lot of agriculture, so the 3/4" drive stuff definitely has a place for the farmers and tradespeople maintaining heavy equipment. What we have seen with Kobalt is a shift from high quality USA made tools by Williams, to lower priced USA...
