My Grandad did esentially the same thing. Rigged up a tripod to hold the pully. Then he turned on his wood lath a large wooden drum. He removed one side of the tines on a rototiller and bolted on the drum. then did exactly like Andys dad did. He had the tiller tied down pretty solid.

Can you put up a smaller building with an open air lean to on the side? That gives you room for expansion later and a place for your tractor now.

If you are doing a full frost wall why not do stick frame. I don't see what you are saving by building pole barn style and still having a frost wall.

The file piece is probably for jointing a hand saw. That is it makes all the saw teeth the same height. You put the blade in the slot and run the file across the teeth.

Next time you take the kiddos for a walk in subzero temps. Take a bottle of bubble stuff and blow bubbles. They freeze almost instantly. You can stick a finger through them and they don't collapse the wind will blow them along the ground and if you are careful you can pick them up and hold them.

What size are the cabinets you are planning on using? What height are you planning on mounting them at? That is going to determine where the blocking is.

Thanks for the replies. I always thought it was possible but unlikely that California would have such a regulation. AreBeeBee's recollection of hearing about it in other places leaves the door open, But until more positive proof I am going to assume it is hearsay

When I started working as a framing carpenter in the late sixties. My boss who had spent some time framing in California claimed that the California Government required that the springs be removed for safety reasons. I have never heard this from any other source. Has anyone out there heard this...

I reccomended the filler earlier but am liking switching the swing of the door. It is a little inconveniant for access to the cabinet but if it is not possible to move the cabinet over it is the easy fix.

It looks like you havn't completed the cabinet install. I would highly recommend a filler piece on the cabinet. That would move the cabinet over and then clear the base.

I bet that even with Snap On pricing it was worth every penny. Really nice boxes.
