    Leveling ground- DIY?

Thanks for the tips... kinda reinforces what i was thinking. i'm not real full up on time or money, but i'll probably rent a Bobcat for a week or something and do the pool and carport at the same time. Can't find any rental prices on-line, though, so i'm a bit afraid of how much it's going to...

    Leveling ground- DIY?

Okay, i've currently got three projects that i need to level out ground for... an under-deck area (partially enclosed, 20 x 20 with beams intruding into the space), a carport (20 x 22, currently wild), and an above-ground pool (15 x 30, currently wild). i have very little elevation change...

Craftsman: Would you take this back to SEARS?

Last time i did that, they called the police :( i agree that you shouldn't have to clean it, but i probably would as well. The warranty doesn't say "guaranteed as long as you use it in a cleanroom"... when you work on old vehicles, which is the reason i own most of my tools, stuff gets grimy...

    Northern Tool rant.

Yeah, they definitely have the Home Depot effect going on at the NT near us as well... tens of thousands of square feet, a total staff of two cashiers. On the plus side, at least it's clean... the HF store looks like a Calcutta flea market. ...dave

Pros & Cons of Polyurethane Foam Insulation

Just a thought... have you looked into purchasing binary urethane foam and creating your own injection system? It looks as though you could save serious bucks on materials if you get the compound in bulk from US Composites or someone like that. Interesting idea, i can see where wiring could...

Harbor Freight Cherry Picker and Engine stand

A dual-leg engine stand is FAR, FAR superior to a single-leg design for moving and working on large, heavy engines. i made the mistake of getting a cheap 3-wheeled stand for my spare Caddy engine, because i'd already maxed myself out buying the car... well, an old Cadillac OHV V-8 is one of the...

Anyone make a homemade sheetmetal bender?

Oh, i know exactly what you mean, i just think you're boned on this particular project  With the forces involved, by the time you built something to do the job, you'll have spent more than you would have on having a contractor do the whole thing. And you'll have an eight-foot metal brake...

Anyone make a homemade sheetmetal bender?

i agree with everyone else so far... bending 8' worth of .08 diamond plate is a job for serious shop equipment. Might be better off cutting & welding it.

CSPS Stainless tool box from Costco

ARGH! You guys are killin' me... i just bought two non-running motorcycles in a week, though... if i bring home anything else big enough to catch my wife's attention i'm going to be sleeping in the garage :( Soooo shinyyyyyyy....

    Happy with OTC Service!

Dang, that's good to hear... i snapped an arm on my OTC slide hammer/puller set trying to get the crank pulley off my Neon engine (rassin' frassin'!) and have been meaning to look into a replacement... guess i'll drop them a line!

Any thoughts on the Craftsman 19.2 volt combo?

Had mine for a year, and i've been happy with it... i suspect they're nearing the end of the production cycle on these, so i'm waiting for the sets to go on clearance to pick up some spare batteries myself. ...dave

    Why do you buy tools?????

i have a compulsive need to tinker with stuff. You can't get a satisfying tinker on without tools. i own very few tools that i haven't used, and i own a lot of tools (well, not compared to some of you guys, but compared to "normal" people i own a LOT). i have a very good memory for prices, and...

Up to 20% discount for on-line tool purchases @ Sears

10% on all purchases up to $200, 15% for $200-$300, 20% off purchases over $300... taken at check-out. On-line orders only, but most things can be picked up at the store to save shipping. Did not find any exceptions... tool chests, Craftsman Pro wrench sets, Hobart welders... As long as your...

    New Tool Cart

And that, in turn, looks a heck of a lot like this one: Torin card at Northern Tool which i would buy in a second if the local NT would ever get them in stock!!

Alright,, it’s all my weak willpower...

It's depressing, and also scary in some ways... i'm sure you're aware of how important the US manufacturing base was to the outcome of WWII... and now it's all moved to China, of all places... :( Every year in high school i tried to take Auto Shop as an elective (graduated in '94), and each year...

Small Metal Lathe/Mill Experience, best bang for the buck?

Sad state of affairs that someone can make much more money selling machine tools than making things with them in this country :( i've also been hoping to find info on a worthwhile compact mill and lathe in current production... i've been watching all the "normal" resale channels for a couple...

One Big One or Several Smaller Ones? (LONG)

i can definitely see setting up a separate garage for "finished" cars. One problem is that area #4 is really going to need just as many tools as area #2. 2,3, and 4 will all need air power, and at least for 3 and 4, a $250 compressor won't cut it. Also, are you planning to have separate...

What kind of setup do you have to handle plywood sheets?

Saw horses. Well how 'bout that! Oddly enough, i don't have a single one... they just seem so... low-tech :wtf: i assume that a panel cutter is the big vertical arm-mounted sucker they use at the lumberyard? i think that would qualify as taking over my entire garage, unfortunately :(
