Heating method for 1500 Sq ft garage/workshop in Minnesota - radiant or unit heater?

Oof . That's way out of the budget. Maybe for a future shed/workshop. I think I've settled on radiant overhead.

Heating method for 1500 Sq ft garage/workshop in Minnesota - radiant or unit heater?

I know what you mean...it got so bad that I made a smart home routine with my ecobee to turn off when the front garage door was open for longer than 5 minutes. The garage isn't a regular rectangle so I'm hoping it doesn't have deadspots that aren't in the tubes' line of sight.

Heating method for 1500 Sq ft garage/workshop in Minnesota - radiant or unit heater?

I'm in the middle of a build with an attached 6 car garage (roughly 25x60) with a 14' ceiling. Originally, I was thinking of going with a unit heater like a reznor but then I did some research and some were recommending radiant overhead heaters for garages that get opened/closed often...

Solutions for addition to detached garage - tying in roof lines

Seeing as the permitting process is supposed to take 60 days for the hearing(s) and review(s), progress will be slow at first but I'll try and update as I go along.

Solutions for addition to detached garage - tying in roof lines

storage of seasonal tools and hobby workshop. I don't mind being asked it just seemed like they've had this problem more times than they'd like. I know it's just to inform the potential applicant before they go through the expense and find out it's not allowed. Anyhow, after weighing the pros...

Solutions for addition to detached garage - tying in roof lines

ha. the old permit for this build shows a fee of 430 bucks back in 2003. I can't imagine it's that much more.

Solutions for addition to detached garage - tying in roof lines

I guess I don't have a good reason other than wanting to have more workspace and start using my attached garage to actually park cars. I don't see many other parcels with a large detached garage in addition to their attached so I don't know if I can use that one. It is pretty funny though...

Solutions for addition to detached garage - tying in roof lines

I've considered just scissors on the current garage but that limited my lift placement more towards the middle, hence the desire to just have 12' ceilings and have the extra attic insulation space.

Solutions for addition to detached garage - tying in roof lines

That's a fantastic idea. I'm glad I posted here! Saves on the truss cost for sure. I just might run with this idea and see what the city thinks. Now anyone have thoughts on the footing in the middle? I'm mainly fearful of keeping two independent slabs moving as one. I've considered doweling in...

Solutions for addition to detached garage - tying in roof lines

Thanks for the quick input. I understand if you don't want to but could you elaborate on continuing all the way across? Do you mean just continuing the new roof ridge all the way to the other side of the existing garage? Essentially making a cross from a top down view? I'm unclear on what you...

Solutions for addition to detached garage - tying in roof lines

I'm looking to add on to my detached garage for more space and a higher ceiling for a clearfloor lift. Since my city had already required the previous owner to appear before city council in order to build the current detached garage(attached + detached > ordinance limits), I will have to do the...

    Concentric vent kit wall thimbles???

Mods - Please close/delete this thread. I ended up just using my nibbler to cut out a ring from a sheet of galvanized ducting. I should have done this days ago!

    Concentric vent kit wall thimbles???

I previously posted on a new garage heater install and figured out my gas line install fairly easily once I started popping holes in drywall. My next big hurdle is the ducting. Reznor's concentric vent kit (CC6) for horizontal venting requires a 6" combustion air pipe with the 4" flue pipe...

Another garage heater install - gas line behind drywall or on top/along perimeter?

Reznor UDAS-60 is around $1490 online, which is a sealed/separated combustion unit. You're probably talking about a Mr Heater Big Maxx which isn't sealed but I haven't read too many good reviews on them. More to you if that's what you wanted. I plan on doing some woodworking and automotive...

Another garage heater install - gas line behind drywall or on top/along perimeter?

Didn't see a notification that I had a reply. Anyhow. Yes, natural gas. I don't get why copper isn't allowed for natural gas in some areas. Copper runs from my meter down to my furnace where it is teed off in black iron and run to all of the gas appliances with copper. I've decided to go with...

Another garage heater install - gas line behind drywall or on top/along perimeter?

Hey all. Moved into a new house and ready for a garage heater. I have a few questions and it seems that several hvac contractors have differing opinions but I wanted to get feedback from some of you who have been there. 1. Should I install a gas from the basement, between studs up to the...

Replacing cracked and settled garage floor?

I've built a couple of large stick built garages/man caves on slabs so I think I can handle the project. When considering if the structure is worth it or not, I am taking into account that these costs:the wood to lift the house with some bottle jacks is going to be about $500 +/- $100, the...

Replacing cracked and settled garage floor?

My mom's detached two-car garage floor is severely damaged. Some cracks are 2 inches wide and there are probably 10 different floor elevations from the cracked up floor. I haven't looked at it in a couple of years but I believe the framing is still in good condition. What I'd like to do is...
