I previously posted on a new garage heater install and figured out my gas line install fairly easily once I started popping holes in drywall.
My next big hurdle is the ducting. Reznor's concentric vent kit (CC6) for horizontal venting requires a 6" combustion air pipe with the 4" flue pipe inside. The manual says a wall thimble is required if going through a combustible wall. I've got vinyl siding, osb, and drywall.
I'm using a single wall 6" for my inlet. My local supply stores only have 6" wall thimbles for double-wall pipe. All the thimbles have 6 5/8" or larger holes. I've read many posts asking a similar question and everyone saying to caulk it, but I just can't accept that I have to caulk a 1/2" gap.
Are there really no wall thimbles with 6" diameter holes? My alternative idea is to get some galvanized sheets and cut out my own "trim plate".
For anyone else considering a reznor sealed combustion unit and venting horizontally, get the CC14 kit. it's like the cc6 but with an "aesthetic" goal so it has smaller venting requirements and no need for a wall thimble. If this darn kit wasn't 230 bucks, I would toss this and get the cc14 kit.
