There was a video on UTube showing these,(lower control arm tool) they appeared to be a great idea.

I still use a drill press similar to this (flat belt drive) to-day, they are a great machine.

Look out for one on Ebay.

Used a 3/4 drive socket set a lot back in the 1970s, found them to be OK.

Another option is a Cole Drill.

If using a normal twist drill (however its powered) stuff the 3/8" hole with rag first, covering it. Have been going to try a wooden plug in the hole but have not been confronted with this situation for some time.

Regarding the second HM drill press mentioned in my original post, it utilizers a conventional diff and uses a straightened ring gear and starter pinion for the feed. It is not as refined as the one described in the PM magazine but would still work...

Screw the nut on, clamp it in the vice, hacksaw 1/8" off, may need to touch the end up with a file or grinder.
