    ridgecrawlers shop in progress

Nice place!! Pretty much exactly what I'm aiming at except different door configuration. Love the brick, if you don't mind, was the brick more or less than vinyl siding? That is if you priced out vinyl.

    Starting on my Garage...... 30x40x10

Was the gravel just placed on top of the grass?, that's going to be problematic with doing a concrete floor? It's hard to tell from the pics if you removed the organic layer? Usually this layer gets removed so there's no settling Building is looking good so far, I'm looking at the same size but...

Air Compressor Problems in Freezing Temps

What about any moisture in the tank? If it freezes could it cause a problem at the drain valve? I know you should drain on a regular basis but what if?

    pole barn in west michigan

Love your building, I'm looking at the same size. Just curious, when they poured your floor did they isolate the poles / bottom girders from the concrete? How deep does your frost level go? I'm considering pole barn but unsure how the floor would be done. My frost zone goes down to 48" + here in...

Long Wait Coming To An End 30 x 40 in Massachsetts

Nice looking building! I'm guessing you are going with a stick build? With a foundation and the trusses you mentioned. Are you going to use metal on the outside / roof? I'm hoping to build pretty much the same layout later this year if there is anything left from our basement renovation. I am...

    First Garage 26x30

Spray foam is going to be more expensive hands down but it will make it nice and cozy and it also doubles as a vapour barrier. You will still need to do traditional or blown in for the ceiling. If it were me I would just buy the really good R value bundles and get a couple buddies (and some...

Heat For Pole Barn Any Thoughts?

I would do the electric but maybe also consider a wood stove, will make it cozy on those really cold days. Nice building by the way, I'm considering that exact size build next year.

Flat file cabinet - Is this worth the $$?

Looks like its an old map cabinet. I'd pay $200 for it especially if its metal. Just think how much you would pay for a tool box that size. Its rather large. You can paint it what ever color you want and there's still room on top for another box, bar fridge, etc. Go for it!!!!

Some help with staining my deck

Sikkens has some great deck sealing products for northern climates. Their "DEK" line comes out looking like furniture if done right. Definitely clean, strip off the old stuff but most people skip the most important step: sanding the wood. It's a pain in the *** but if not done it won't matter...

Remove old garage pad or pour over top?

Break up the concrete and use it to build a retaining wall on your property. You will be recycling and saving the dumping fees at the same time. Google "recycled concrete retaining wall" images, you will be surprised at how well it looks. I'm doing a 200' wall right now along one side of the...

Rhino Underground - 4 Car Tandem

I really love this space, it has lots of potential. This space would never pass code as a garage where I'm from with those open trusses. This hole room would have to be sealed off from the living quarters above. If you drive vehicles in there carbon monoxide would get upstairs even with just...

Vinyl siding trans. from regular to shake - help

I'm doing mine the same as Jim above except instead of the cement board I'm going to use an 8" wide piece of white PVC trim board. You can get it with a wood grain. It is 1 1/4" thick.

    Access Under Low Cars

I built these out of 2 x 12 LVL beams left over from my house build. I guess you could make them out of regular wood, the LVL was free for me. Lift the car and set these under the tires, the angled pieces hold the tire in place. Of course, if you are doing any brake work etc. these won't work...

20 gal Parts washer, new to me, What goes in it.

I just picked up the exact same washer at Princess Auto. The guy at the store said to use their "Solvent", I laughed at him when I showed him where it said not to use the solvent. He said not to listen to that. Anyway, I ended up going with Simple green Pro HD, its a purple water based cleaner...

need to get garage cabinets on a budget

Check out different auction sites. I got mine from a demolition company that just ripped out a university lab so they are all steel, paid $300 for my whole garage. Some schools and universities have there own surplus and auction stuff off themselves. Also try government auctions.

First House, First Garage -- 30x28

Congrats on the house!!! The 3 car garage is a nice space: I regret now not adding that 3rd bay to my new house. Just an idea with your fridge: maybe when you frame in your compressor room frame out a pocket to the right of the man door where your fridge is now; that way you could slide that...
