I will check the above, the motor did run if I gave the shaft a spin because of the bad cap. I didn't see any wobble of the shafts visually , but the pulley had being replaced at some point with a aftermarket type, which is why I think it had fallen over at some point. Damaged the pulley...

Thanks for the info, the problem is that some time in its life the drill press fell over and cracked the base and some of the end bell vents are cracked, plus the capacitor is bad. Previous owner tried welding the damage, it sort of worked, but I figured if I could obtain a Craftsman 50's motor...

Is there any difference between parts like end bells, capacitor, base casting? I need some parts for my ½ hp drill press motor and there is a 3/4 hp 3450 rpm motor available locally that i might be able to use parts off of it.

Thank you very much, mine measures only 3". So is the actual spline length about .625" - .750"?

Does anyone have a pulley out of their drill press that could do some measurements for me? I need the length of the shaft from the surface that the top bearing rests on to the end where the splines are. The one I have appears to be short compared to the ones I see online. I'm going to make a new...

Dial indicator mounted to the main casting, pushing the quill to in one direction then to the other direction. This is with the quill totally inserted with about a 1/4" sticking out from the casting for the indicator to measure off of.

How much play is acceptable between the quill and the main casting? I'm measuring .0045" front to back and .0035" side to side/

Not to bad, some wear on the teeth, handles are not stock though. If I can find the parts for a reasonable price or another machine, but in my area they don't come up very often .

Runout on my spindle is real bad, side to side slop in the bearings. I'll disassemble it and check it out to see what's up with the knurling and get some pictures.

Thanks for that info, that knurled collar on the left picture is where that turned down area is on mine, below the taper pinned collar right? The motor on mine is dated 1948 so a 6A chuck makes sense.

I'll measure the round out. Where the threads are missing is that where the collar would have been that a spanner wrench would have been used? Any idea why the PO installed the quill upside down, just a mistake or?

I'll clean it up (get all the black tape off) and get some better pictures, plus the PO used a punch to increase the fit, it's a mess. There was no snap ring either and the groove is pretty much gone.

Man, I need the spindle pulley bad, on mine the bearings are spinning on the shaft, PO tried to use black electrical tape to repair.
