Is there any difference between parts like end bells, capacitor, base casting? I need some parts for my ½ hp drill press motor and there is a 3/4 hp 3450 rpm motor available locally that i might be able to use parts off of it.

Depends on the Craftsman motor and who produces the motor for Craftsman. Depending on the part there might be some interchangeability.

Most drill press motors are 1725 rpm, not 3450 rpm. Check your existing motor; if it is indeed 1725, then the parts from a similar motor would likely fit better.

And that being said, I've replaced bearings in a motor; if this is what you're after, just buying them new from a local bearing supplier is likely the cheapest and best fit option. I just took them in and they matched them with decent quality Japanese bearings.

Thanks for the info, the problem is that some time in its life the drill press fell over and cracked the base and some of the end bell vents are cracked, plus the capacitor is bad. Previous owner tried welding the damage, it sort of worked, but I figured if I could obtain a Craftsman 50's motor locally, I could swap the damaged parts out. Buying parts or a complete motor from the marketplace is out of the question because of the $ and or shipping. I do have a Baldor motor I could use, but I would like to make the drill press period correct if possible.

Which end frame is is cracked?

Is the motor pulley bent?

Is either end of the rotor shaft bent?

Install a pulley on both sides and spin the rotor. The pulley will wobble if either are bent.

I’d do some investigating (following FrankLee advice above). The cracked bell end frame may or may not impact the motor operation. The bell end may have been knocked off center from the fall, causing some interference with the motor shaft. It might just need to reseated (I’ve seen this before).

The weld on the motor base shouldn’t have any impact on the motor operation.

I will check the above, the motor did run if I gave the shaft a spin because of the bad cap. I didn't see any wobble of the shafts visually , but the pulley had being replaced at some point with a aftermarket type, which is why I think it had fallen over at some point. Damaged the pulley, cracked the base and end bell. I'll put an indictor on the shafts to check it more closely. The end bell which was cracked has also been welded too. It is true that the way it is right now the repaired damage works, but it just bugs me.
