    Socket suggestions?

I am looking for standard and metric sockets, 6pt and 12pt and impact sockets. Budget- few hundred bucks if needed. I can buy the regular sockets bow and impact later if needing a bigger budget. I’m not a mechanic but I like decent tools. “Truck” brands are out of my league and a total wast...

Does 12-24 female threaded rod exist?

I am using the 3 inches of threaded insert as a strengthening rod for the pieces of wood they go into. The 2" length of screw isn't necessary I suppose but I figured it could only help stiffen things up. Sir, I thank you! I switched over to 1/4-20 thanks to your reply and was able to find...

Does 12-24 female threaded rod exist?

I would like to use epoxy to inset female threaded rod into wood, so I can use #12-24 x 2” machine screws to attach metal brackets to the wood. Does such a rod exist? I am limited on diameter so long nuts will not work. I would prefer a minimum of 3” of female threaded rod per attachment...

Two shops with different purposes- What type of roof vents?

I have 2 old buildings with new roofs. The roofs were never ventilated in the past but I figure dropping the temp in there a few degrees in the summer by ventilating the structures might not be a bad idea. Here are my questions... 1. First structure is an old 1 car garage that houses a...

Roofing underlayment is a waste of time and money with asphault shingles...

Not trying to be funny or rude but my response to your answers are as follows (I'm kinda playing devils advocate here/kinda serious) Dont need to carry what you dont install Dont need to install what you dont install Dont need traction on low pitch roof in dry weather if getting shingled same...

Roofing underlayment is a waste of time and money with asphault shingles...

By seeing a perfectly dried in roof leak at multiple nail hole locations after shingles were applied over new Titanium 30UDL underlayment. (We were waiting on a few ridge caps and it rained. The underlayment leaked at multiple nail holes that were 10ft-15 below the leak site. If anything, it...

Roofing underlayment is a waste of time and money with asphault shingles...

In southern california, both of these statements are not true. Most underlayments used out here are non-stick, non-self sealing, nail down rolls. Titanium 30 is likely the most common by far. Malarky, Owens Corning, and other large shingle companies make similar, non-sealing, non stick products.

Roofing underlayment is a waste of time and money with asphault shingles...

I know, the title is a little obnoxious, but seriously.... Today's most-used synthetic underlayments leak at each and every nail hole. They are NOT self sealing and any water seems to find its way directly through each nail hole. Why use any underlayment at all, if the underlayment leaks in...

What will last longer in a hot attic, spray foam or OSI Quadmax? Sealing top plate while roof is off…

I have the roof off and I think this would be a good time to seal the top plate to the top of the drwall, around the entire perimeter of the house. It’s a small house and cost or ease of application are NOT concerns. I just don’t want to create a headache for myself or someone else in 30 years...

Rafter tails- Paint 3 or 4 sides for longest lasting paint job?

Yes, as in, there are no deco or finish boards under them. They stick out from the house about 24" and will have an 8" fascia board attached to the front of them. In other words, not exposed to direct rain but they are exposed to the outside air and humidity.

Rafter tails- Paint 3 or 4 sides for longest lasting paint job?

I have an opportunity to throw a good coat of primer and paint on all the rafter tails, before the roof goes on. I know this is overthinking things, but at the same time, if one method will buy me more years out of the paint, why not? Option 1- Paint 3 sides, leave top unpainted (like most...

Best primer to go over new, pre-primed exterior fascia boards?

Great answer!!!!! I usually paint Titebond 3 exterior glue to my facia joints. No primer. Non mitered ends get one coat of primer and one or two coats of paint. Do you prime your miters before gluing? Preference on miters vs but joints for outside corners?

Best primer to go over new, pre-primed exterior fascia boards?

I am installing all new wood fascia boards around the shop. The boards I bought came pre-primed but I am going to have to sand/soften all of the sharply cut corners so they will hold paint better. Some also need to be smoothed out entirely and will need to be re primed entirely (although much...
