Will primer fail if not top-coated? BIN Shellac, SW Extreme bond, 123 primer

What happens to a primed surface after 10-20 years without a top coat? I know the top coat will provide durability and stain/scratch resistance but I'm only asking about a surface that is untouched. For example, a primed closet that was never painted. Say you prime a wall, install cabinets...

Steel plate as countertop overhang support instead of wood/brackets?

Thanks, that’s what I am going to go with after testing different thicknesses of metal. It will be routed into a 3/4” piece of plywood as subtop.

Stainless Steel??? on back of trash area- can I clear coat SS? Wax? Is it really SS?

I gave it a strong scrubbing (in one direction only) with a red 3M scrub pad to remove the rust marks that were left as a result of me cutting it and not cleaning the metal dust/chips off of it and leaving it outside overnight

Stainless Steel??? on back of trash area- can I clear coat SS? Wax? Is it really SS?

That was a fantastic reply and greatly appreciated. I learned something today, thanks to you. Below is a picture of what I'm calling a "sheet". It’s about 3/16" thick and about 20"x30". You seem to know a LOT about stainless. Any knowledge to share about clearcoating or waxing it to keep...

Stainless Steel??? on back of trash area- can I clear coat SS? Wax? Is it really SS?

Few questions about stainless steel. 1. I have a piece of steel that I believe is "stainless steel". It was sold as stainless from a metal yard's scrap pile but no mention of grade. It doesn't rust when left outside overnight, the cut edges didn't rust either, but it did rust when I cut it...

For a 12" overhang on both sides of a 6" pony wall?

Steel plate as countertop overhang support instead of wood/brackets?

I am doing a bar in the shop. It will be made from a leftover 2cm quartzite stone slab. Scenario- 5 foot long ponywall with 12" overhang on both sides. Ponywall is super strong (made of steel) and I'd like to avoid using visible brackets for the overhang. Can I just use steel plate...

Synthetic roof underlayment- What's the point in warm, dry weather? Any benefit of Ice & Water shield on entire roof?

I'll break this down into two questions... 1. What is the benefit of using a synthetic underlayment under shingles? The nails holes don't seal in the synthetic underlayment's i've seen... so what's the point (assuming we aren't worried about rain between tear off and install)? The tar paper...

Affordable 3/8 drive metric impact socket set?

Any decent 3/8 drive metric impact socket sets you guys like? This is just a hobby for me. I don’t need snap on or “the best”. Is there a reasonably priced set that doesn’t totally ****? Gearwrench? Tekton? Craftsman?

    PVC trim- what glue?

Yeah, that’s the stuff I’m trying to avoid buying. Haha. I only need to glue 2 joints and that stuff is like $25.

    PVC trim- what glue?

I have only a few pvc door casings that need the miters glued together. Do I have to buy the $22 bottle of pvc glue or does anything else work as well? I’m sure PL premium would do it but it’s thicker than I’d like to use for finished miter joints. Will super glue type glues be...

How to keep unused garden area weed free but also poison free?

We have about 10,000 sq ft (not huge but also not tiny) area of "clean" dirt. By clean, I mean it's been kept contaminate and poison free for the past 50 years as it was used as a well cared for garden. It is currently not being used as a garden and is just a vacant dirt area. What I believe...

Saggy rafters! How much weight can a 4x6x16' piece of lumber hold mid-span? Will (3) 2x6's screwed together be stronger than one 4x6?

As the title says, I'm trying to fix some roof rafters. Not bad, just undersized and sagging about an inch which is visible from the street and looks bad. The problem is, the saggy part is right in the middle of a 15x15 room which has 2x6 ceiling joists and plaster below. Obviously, cannot...

O'hagen roof vents- Do they need to be on both side of roof or can I keep exposed side "clean"?

Another question... When I run the calculations for the 1:150 rule, it says I need a LOT of vents (like 12 high vents/12 low vents) for a 1500sqft house. Not a single house in the neighborhood has more than 6 vents total for a similar or larger house. Driving around all of San Diego I can't...

O'hagen roof vents- Do they need to be on both side of roof or can I keep exposed side "clean"?

Lol. If it doesn't matter, why not make it look better? Attention to detail isn't ALWAYS OCD. Seriously though, thanks for the reply. That makes sense about the winds

O'hagen roof vents- Do they need to be on both side of roof or can I keep exposed side "clean"?

I'm getting mixed answers from roofers. If I meet the 1:150 ventilation requirement, does it matter if I put all the O'hagen low profile vents on the back side of the 20x30 structure or do half need to go on the front(visible) side? I'm only asking about the peak/high vents because the...

How to join two 20' pieces of 2x6 facia board and how to join corners?

I'm wondering how to join two 20ft 2x6's to make a 40ft run of fascia board and also wondering how to join the mitered corners in a way that will prevent future splitting and water damage at the cuts. 1. Paint all cut edges. Screw the corners (45s) together and cut the joint of where the two...
