    The Harbor Freight PASS/FAIL Thread...

I seldom shop HF as I generally don't like cheap tools. However this jack seems well built and fits under a low (4 inch ride height) car. I've had it for several years and it's served me well and definitely is a PASS. Tools I don't use often, but are indispensable when needed, I don't mind...

    Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT Roboto's Garage

House and garage look great! Found this thread last week and read the whole thing, there are lots of great ideas that I'll use when I move into my new-to-me shop. Wish I'd seen that coping trim with an angle grinder video two weeks ago, when I was trimming out the basement of the house we're...

Does anyone here do sand casting?

My day job is at a production iron foundry, but I don't do casting as a hobby. It certainly is, and there are few who still do it. Sent from my iPhone using The Garage Journal mobile app

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

OK it wasn't today, it was Thanksgiving weekend, but I put a new (used) transmission in my 17YO's BMW. The picture is the old one going out. Now she has five forward gears! Changed the oil in my 545i while I was at it.

How can you do this to your car

That's worse than my kid's car! By a lot actually. He can work on it but never got the knack of keeping it clean. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Best pizza I ever had was on a Weber charcoal grill... Main drawback is you can't make a gluten free crust this way (it doesn't hold together), and my wife and one of the kids found they are allergic to wheat. Was fun while it lasted though!

Gregor, I am amazed and inspired! I'll admit it took me three weeks to read the thread thus far. I wish I had half your energy and a fraction of your talent, I love the way your home and garage are coming together. The style and craftsmanship are beautiful. When I catch up on all my...

    Garage Cabinets

Why not build cabinets from plywood instead of melamine? I'd rather buy than build, but I can't bring myself to put mdf cabinets in my garage, knowing they won't last the way I'll load them. Anyone build plywood cabinets?

    Two-car garage, latest updates

I haven't autocrossed since I got the IT car 12 years ago. Lots of fun for the money though! Nice thread, just looking at y'all's cabinets; I need ideas for when the drywall goes up.

Choosing a tool box - Matco, Mac, Snap On

I got this Kobalt box a year ago last May. I'm sure it's not the quality of a Snap-On, but it's a huge improvement over the homeowner Craftsman it replaced. It's chock full of tools, and travels to the race track with me on an open trailer. Ball bearings still work nicely. Was about $600...

    Electric heat only-Ideas??

My Dayton heater came today. Unfortunately, it's made in China. If I knew for sure the Fahrenheat is US made, I probably would have spent the extra $30 or whatever and got that. But the Dayton was less and looked better in the photos. Incidentally, I ordered it from the greenhouse place in...

    Drywall on tall walls

Got it, thanks for all the input. I'll price the 4x10 sheets vs 4x8 and see which way to go. Doing 4x8 sheets horizontally may be the way to go, lighter weight (I'm not big) and maybe easier around the electrical boxes. May not be as soon as I think; I've been cleaning the garage for two...

    Drywall on tall walls

My mistake, I originally posted the wrong height; I'm afraid I had one beer too many after Thanksgiving dinner! The walls are 114-1/2", or 9' 6" with a 1/2" gap at the bottom which I understand is what you want. Going horizontal would leave me with the bottom course of drywall only 18" high...

    Drywall on tall walls

I understand it's best to hang drywall horizontally, staggered if possible, but the framed parts of my exterior garage walls are 114-1/2" high. In this case wouldn't it be easiest to order 4 x 10' sheets, cut 6" off the end, and hang them vertically? Thankfully the ceiling and interior wall...
