I just ordered the Dayton, I'll let you know when it arrives.

    Lets see your workbench

Lane, did you make those cabinets or buy them? Plywood or MDF? I'm gonna need cabinets after my insulation/drywall is complete.

    recomendations...110 welder and compressor

I think this is your best bet. I have 220 in my garage, but I had to make a cord of Romex to run my house on generator power when the power goes out. A cord made of the same wire you'd run for a permanent circuit will be safe, and you can use whatever plugs you need for the welder/compressor...

The best, most cost effective, way of heating a 850 sqaure foot garage in winter

Excuse the ignorant question, but where does the combustion air come from for the gas units that do have a flue?

    car polish/wax recommendations

All car waxes are not the same! However for what you're wanting to do, Collinite 845 is just the ticket. It is not a polish (i.e. it won't fix scratches), only the most durable wax you'll find. If you have trouble finding it, try a boat dealer or buy online.

    Question about HOAs???

They're not ALL bad. A lot depends on how good a neighbors you end up with. Our HOA maintains 300' of lake frontage with a pier, that's the main reason we have it. I'm limited to one outbuilding but my funds are also limited so it's not an issue now. I've swapped engines in the garage and...

    Above 1200 Sq/FT OldCarGuy’s New Toy Shop

Re: OldCarGuy’s New Toy Shop Great garage OCG! As often as you see people get rich by being crooks, it's good to remind oneself of this. I also need to work on all three.

Building my garage / workshop (56K death)

Looks like you're really making progress; can't wait to see how it all comes together. I'm glad you mentioned speaker wiring. I didn't think of this for my garage. I will want to take care of this before I 'rock the garage next summer. Great looking bike!

    Where to put the junk

Your garage reminds me a lot of mine, except I don't have drywall yet. I am very interested in this thread. I have four kids, so keeping all the stuff organized is a real chore. Only one small enough for a stroller but all the bikes really get in the way. Kids' primary bikes are in the...

    car for kids suggestions

I like that they start all the time! When I learned to drive (early '80s) a lot of cars didn't start in cold weather, and mileage over 100,000 was considered quite high.

Do you wear your wedding band?

I almost never take it off. I'm usually wearing Mechanix gloves when working, except for really greasy jobs like CV joints, or any job involving automotive paint, then I wear latex gloves. Both my wife and I used to work at a plant that didn't allow rings in the shop; I almost lost my ring...

    car for kids suggestions

I would get my kid a Miata if he wasn't getting my current driver in four years. It's a '98 VW GTI with the VR6 engine. Bright yellow, and stick shift of course; if my kids are going to drive they're going to drive stick! He'd probably be better off in the Miata. Enough power but not too...

    Hello from West Michigan!

Happy New Year! Great meeting you all; this is one heck of a site. I race at Grattan and Gingerman and hope to get to Mid-Ohio this year. I run SCCA road racing; we're the guys that turn left and right.

    A new work bench thread!!!

Here's my setup as it stands now. 1/8" sacrificial hardboard on the workbench, 1/2" Baltic birch on the toolbox to replace the original mdf that was lost. The wooden crate contains a spare 1.8 liter VW short block for the IT car. Ipod was added when the cd player took a dump; there's an XM...

    A new work bench thread!!!

Ooh, I see watercooled parts too! Nice workbenches all. I do know where to begin--insulation & drywall--but there are so many ideas here that deciding on cabinets and a workbench upgrade will be difficult.

    Hello from West Michigan!

Great site y'all have here. Some great garages in the Gallery, though most are huge! I come looking for ideas to maximize the space inside my 24x26x11 attached garage. First thing I did, about a month ago, is rent a storage unit for my race car and cycle. Now I don't have to scrape in the...
