    Swinging garage doors

Nearly all the occasions I have built and mounted swing doors on the misc. sheds, etc I have built, I always default to my early days of building fence / gates. The bottom hinge actually carriers nearly all the load - the top hinge only acts as a anchor point to "tension" the load.

Some of the guys I work with have suggested plywood walls for the garage / shop. I am a little concerned about fire hazard. Is that a concern?

    Carport / Garage redo

I’m not sure how I always seem to wind up with odd circumstances / weird projects but here goes: I recently moved into a property I had originally purchased to refurbish for a family member. About ½ way through the remodel family plans changed and my wife and I have finished out the house...

Occasionally I think my slabs get colder than the dew point or something – the floors get covered in moisture. Then when the outside air temp warms up rapidly I get the moisture. I’m in north Florida and so we have pretty rapid swings in temp and a lot of humidity. - My tools do the same thing...

    Titan Micro Ratchet Set

I'm looking at some other items on PST (3/8 ratchets) and think they have good deals. I was going to register and place an order, but it looks like PST is commercial account only? Anyone else purchase from them? Edit - I figured it out. They have a "guest" option which I didn't see from the...

If you are working in a noisy environment, wear ear protection - 1)it will help you focus 2)it may save your hearing in old age If you are running screw/bolt etc in with a drill, make sure your head is out of the way when the screw hits bottom!

    Tips & Tricks

Re: Tips & Tricks I use a small Old Pal fishing lure box to hold all my "tune up" pieces. The bottom has a vacuum pump, the tiered shelves have various feeler gauges, plug gappers, vacuum plugs, odd ignition screws, a set or two of points, etc. It just works really well Also if your replacing...

New here, from Illinois not Chicago!

Hey I'm new to the site also - I lived in Dwight during some of my "formative years" and still remember those as some the best days of my life! Looks like some of those pictures are on Old '66 and is the gas station in your avatar over by Odell?

    New guy from N. Florida

Hello - What a great site! For years I've been a shade tree mechanic (literally - working in the yard!) Over the last 20 years (where does it go?) been living in town with limited opportunity to build a nice shop / large enough to accommodate my "projects". We've owned the last 2 homes we've...
