Sun Engine Analyzer SST 1500 EEOS104a

I just picked up this engine analyzer off craigslist. Seems to be in good functional condition and has a lot of the accessories. I am pretty excited to be able to get this kind of insight into older engines. I have a lot of 50s-70s era cars so this machine should work good. It was actually sold...

MN Auto Shop build in a 42x90 pole barn

I thought I should give a little update. The shop has made some progress in the last few months. I have the waste oil heater installed and running, plus I got the air compressor installed and have some air line run. For the air line I went with 3/4" "Rapid Air" from northern tool. Its seemed...

Thanks Gordyy, I am a fan of the bubble balancers. Personally, I want to do a static balance anyway because I don't want any weights on the outside lip of the rim (tends to scratch the clearcoat off and ruin the rim). With my dynamic balancer I can either put them on the inside lip or use stick...

The other thing I am working on is my air supply and tools. I purchased a compressor last week capable of 16.5cfm at 90psi and 15.3cfm at 175 with a n 80 gallon tank. That should power anything I need and more. I have decided to go with RapidAir MaxLine 3/4" line in a loop around my shop...

Next steps... For heat, I have purchased a Reznor RA140 waste oil heater. I bought this used from a dealer who refurbished it. I have not yet installed it myself as I needed to get my wiring complete first, but now that I have that done, I am starting on it. Fortunately, the manual with it is...

MN Auto Shop build in a 42x90 pole barn

I have a lot to update... I will start with the wiring. I managed to complete all my wiring. It was a bit of a hassle because there are a lot of i's to dot and t's to cross to get everything to code. I am not an electrician, so sometimes it took a while to figure out what "right" was. I do have...

ABJNET, I guess I haven't been here for a while... gonna have to change that. I am going to be using waste oil as my heat source. I debated a lot of options, really wanted to use solar as a primary heat source but it was very expensive to install and I would still need a secondary heat source...

It was especially difficult using extension cords when I had to use two long cords to reach my work area, and I couldn't start my air compressor with the lights on or it would brown out and pop the breaker. I can't wait till I get the 200a service run so I can run the furnace, welder, air...

MN Auto Shop build in a 42x90 pole barn

It's been a long time since I have updated anything, but I haven't made much progress on the shop because it has been usable enough that I have been working on car projects instead. :-) The owner of the scaffolding I have has requested them back soon, so that was my motivator to get on the...

Just because people seem to enjoy the car pics, I currently have an interesting car on the hoist. It's my friends car, and was bought by his parents from the dealer in the fall of 66 (technically, the dealership owner drove it for part of a year, so they didn't buy it "new"). It is all original...

That isn't quite how I was thinking of doing it, but yours looks like it's a lot simpler and easier to build. I think I am going to have to adjust my plan to be more like yours. Are you just using standard ramps as the plates that they drive on?

Gordyy, I plan on making some ramps as well so I can lift other small machine more easily. I also plan on making some sort of adaptor so I can lift motorcycles with it as well. I have seen a few different designs but haven't figured out exactly what I want. Sunbimmer, The COE is my next big...

Let there be light! I put in all the windows (rain really slowed me down). It is amazing how much light I get through them and the ability to get some air flowing through the shop is great. Especially when we get a warm day and I want to warm up the shop (unfortunately, insulation keeps my shop...

One more update from the weekend. I finished installing and adjusting the hoist and picked up the first car with it (my wife's car needed some maintenance, so it got to be my test vehicle). The hoist worked flawlessly and made those repair jobs way easier. Secondly, I put in the side entry...

MN Auto Shop build in a 42x90 pole barn

gordyy, My shop isn't as clean as it looks (although the goal is to keep the shop clean and the **** in other sheds). Because I just put up the walls that were visible in the pic, I haven't had time to set up any shelving there. The walls outside of the pic that have shelving don't look as...

MN Auto Shop build in a 42x90 pole barn

I have finally hit another milestone worthy of a post update. I finished all the insulation and inside tin (but still need to do a little trim work). This suddenly made it feel less like a pole barn and more like a shop. Definitely a step in the right direction. I still need to install the walk...

I think it is a little cold hearted to put up a teaser like this and then just leave us hanging... We need more details and pics! :-)

    The cuckoo's nest

Wow, its interesting to see how this project has progressed through the years, but seeing how great it looks now, it was worth it. Don't let this thread die until its finished (and a good garage is never finished).

it's actually an old bronco. Its a '73 model with 351w, auto and power steering. I bought it out of a tree row many years back, put in the 351, rebuilt the motor, added a twinstick shifter, lifted it, added the 35" tires, limited slips in the axles, custom bumpers, painted it and massaged the...

Thanks for the positive feedback guys... I made a little more progress on the shop this weekend. I put up 20' of tin on the wall and framed in an entry door. I have 2 windows to frame and I will be able to finish the tin shortly. Also, I ordered my Bendpak 2 post 10k lift today. :-)
