I asked an employee at a local sears hardware if they had a rebuild kit in stock for a premium 1/4' ratchet. They had one and gave it to me for free.

There were something like 8 different revs of the pawl in that ratchet set. I like them but have never used them. I find myself going to my tried and true RP -V- series ratchets. The RP's are the only ratchets I don't care about scratching on my cement floor in my garage.

Here is the round casting older version and the Wilton 1745. As you can see, they are not exactly the same. The craftsman has a square lower casting where the Wilton is round. Both are great vises.

I replaced my garbage Craftsman ratchets with the 899-2345 ratchet set. I actually bought three sets of them. One set for the house, one set for the garage, and one set for when Napa loses interest in the Carlyle stuff.

I like them both. I have two sk 3/8 ratchets and they are pretty tough. It is a tried and true design. I also have 6 dual 80's and 10 of the older 800 series snapon ratchets. I just prefer the snapon stuff.

The last Napa I was in, the person working there told me Carlyle is being discontinued because it is too expensive. I told him they just started selling the stuff, how are they getting rid of it already? He was just as the previous poster described. Do anything but actually sell tools.

I like the Carlyle 899-2345 3 piece ratchet set. Only problem with Carlyle is Napa stores are inconsistent on how they are stocked and operated. All the stores I called don't stock Carlyle tools. You have to special order any sets.

I coat all my tools in my unheated garage with fluid film. I have never had any rust on my craftsman sockets. I did however have some rust on my craftsman polished stubby set. I did not treat them since I didn't think I had to. Cleaned them with gun cleaning oil.
