Amish Pole Barn builder - SE Michigan

I'm not aware of any super close by. I would be curious to see how amish pricing compares to Chelsea Lumber. I found their prices very competitive when I used them.

    Toolbox drawer swap?

I've done this on boxes at work, one box with all shallow drawers and one with more deep drawers. Switching the drawers is no problem as others have mentioned but the lock bar won't engage the added drawers.

    Pressing louvers

I would try to find a panel that already has the louvers in it. Something like used school lockers off of Craigslist and then cut to fit. That said I'd like to know what you end up doing, especially if you find a low cost solution.

    My childhood house

I do this with Excel files on dropbox, accessible from any of my devises. I agree with your best/worst analysis  Edit: I really like your vision for the garage.

Pole Barn Concrete Slab Insulation and Radiant Head

Ignoring the technical and just looking at cost, you're talking about adding 1656 sq feet for insulation. Assuming $1/sq ft for foam vs $30/yd of stone: Stone: 46x36' with no insulation, requires 2" of stone. 10.2 yards at $30/yd = $306 Insulation: 46x36" x$1/sqft = $1656 So $1350 additional...

    Project Mark II

No problem! The house was built in 1997 by a older couple that recently retired up north. We bought the house in late 2014. It had everything the wife wanted but no building so it gave me the opportunity to build exactly what I wanted. And the big wheels are awesome, I ride them around the...

12'x9' Sliding door time: Firstly, the wall mounted rails were fabricated. I made these adjustable and they were tweaked straight once in place with a string and some of those wood blocks masons use on walls... The door itself is a sandwich of 1.5" XPS and two layers of 7/16 OSB. I wanted...

    Project Mark II

Just a little progress. It's getting a 12'x9' insulated sliding door that I am planning to build very soon. I have a pretty simple design for the sliding door and track hardware planned and I may document that in a separate thread. To the right of the door header I am sinking a 2x6 so I can...

I agree! Full disclosure it does still have the bulkhead so think of it as a 8' bed with a 2' compartment in front of it. We didn't think it was worth the extra work involved for a "personal" truck but for a true work truck it would be awesome to have 10' available.

Just a bit of progress this evening. It might look like something soon. Note that the studs are just setting there... I wouldn't nail them in quite that crooked :bounce:

Excellent catch! That's a 4500 w/ a 10' bed. It belongs to my brother. the bed was spliced from a 8' dually bed and a 8' single wheel bed. It's looong :3gears:

It's been a while but I have a little exciting news. All the lumber for the interior walls have been purchased and it's warm enough I might get something done  All the fancy CAD and I am resorting to chalk on the floor to see if I like the layout. The office (with windows)...

Made the mistake of trusting the local welding supply place

I made this mistake in reverse a few years ago. A scratch start tig setup and they gave me C25... I beat my head against the wall wondering what I was doing wrong while burning up Tungsten and making the nastiest fusion welds. I told the LWS "I needed a bottle of Argon for a TIG setup". Lesson...

It's been a little while since an update so here goes. I've been working in the building and really enjoy it so far. I'm hoping to get a bunch of receptacles hooked up soon since working off one extension cord is well... not fun :dunno: Onto pictures: "New" IR air compressor that I need to get...

    rough in struggle,help needed!!

Given what is shown in the pictures, I would run conduit (2") from the box to the top of the header for a sleeve. The romex would then be exposed from there to the final location, covered by whatever you put on your walls. I recessed mine as The Cobbler suggests but also left sleeves in place...

How did you decide door location in your shop?

I would only add that doors are expensive so that can be a consideration. I planned mine with scaled drawings and then 3d, noting things like others mentioned with centering the (future) lift on a doorway, 4-6' beside doorways for working, etc. Mine (40x80) may have benefited from another...
