    Magnetic sweep

    There is no way to turn off a permanent magnet. The welding mag clamps work the same way, by moving the magnet away from the surface. Sounds like you are talking about a powered electromagnet. I think a basic sweep covered with a small bag as mentioned earlier would be most practical for this use.

    dnschmidt is correct that the JIS standard for screwdrivers is dead. Others are citing they still see JIS screws on current production, which is also correct. If you want a real JIS screwdriver, you better hope you get a NOS vessel because nobody makes them anymore. I like my Wera laser tips...

    You aren't wrong in that JIS fasteners still exist, but JIS as a screwdriver standard is extinct. It has been superceded by DIN 5260 which drives both JIS and standard philips fasteners.

    If the springs are tensioned properly, it wont be an issue. I would make sure all the hinges and wheels are lubricated and moving freely before deciding to upgrade the opener
