    Metal Halide light weirdness

Hey gang, there is no end to my ignorance so let's get that out of the way up front. I just finished my 40x60 shop and a friend gave me 4 large stadium light fixtures that someone gave him. One of them had a bulb and since it didn't work, I bought a new one like it, it is a 250w M58E metal arc...

    Progress on the combo shop

These probably belong in the gallery, but here's what we've done so far. Quite a learning curve at times.

    Looks like art to me.

    Truss reinforcement for a winch?

Well, back in the day before we cared about a lot of stuff, my Dad threw a chain around the 2x4 stud below the roof truss in our cracker box garage and we pulled a dozen engines using a come a long. Never tore up anything or dropped anything. Now everyone is concerned about loads and breakage...

What project have you inflicted on yourself this labor day weekend?

Well, you are industrious - I hope it's not a walk behind. We just dug a 250 x 2ft deep electrical line trench for the new shop. My two teenage sons and i were whipped after digging out rocks every two feet that the trencher couldn't handle. Hope you need the exercise, cause you are gonna get...

My wife's Dell Inspiron has been flawless and very easy to use. I'd look for a used one of those from the right seller.

LOL, just what I was thinking. And, it will ALWAYS be hers. If you don't marry her that is. Still, pretty sweet.

    New garage footer design

The control joints are cut, you just can't see them in the pic. 1.25" with two each direction for a 5" slab. Fortunately, they are perfect. I saw another post where the cutter veered off while cutting and ruined the look. I was bummed for him. My concrete guy cut them the afternoon of the...

    Gravel / stone / crush-rock driveway opinions

Sorry anth, no pic, but could get you one. Wouldn't put anything under it but road mat if I was gonna, it's all a nuisance later except that. Just weed killer works like hotfr8 said. Get the right size and it doesn't stick in the tires. But after it's packed it doesn't anyway. I have a...

    Insulation options Existing metal building

If you are putting in a ceiling and paneling the walls anyway, why not blown in insulation? Way cheaper. Just fill each section. PIA and messy but cheap and easy. Just a thought.

    Gravel / stone / crush-rock driveway opinions

I put road base on mine - about $300 bucks for 12 cubic yards or close to that. Quite a bit longer than yours in the pic. Had a friend with a roller packer hammer it for me, but you could do that yourself..... then it rained - stuff is like paving now. Only problem with it - the weeds grow up...

    New garage footer design

Here is a pic of my slab with the northeast corner on grade(R side of pic). Because of spring runoff (some years) I didn't want it on or below grade but this creates fill problems to get up to the doors. It will be a 40x60 steel building and our soil is clay as well and I didn't want it...

    HF 3 day sale?

I used to avoid HF like the plague.....cheap chinese $hxt. Now if you look at most of the car parts stores, big box, etc - it all comes from there anyway except the most outrageously priced stuff. Lucky to get something from Japan or even Taiwan - they're outsourcing to china as well. Course...

How far would you go to help?

Yep!!! And the feeling you get from this act of kindness can't be measured in money. It's not about that.

    Anyone used PURE METALLIC Epoxy?

I mean this in the best way, but now I hate you all. This has now become a must do for me and I've already spent all my shop money. Does anyone want to buy a really nice teenager? For sale, cheap. Low maintenance, low hours - only sits in front of a gaming console so must be dusted. Damn...

Anchor Bolt Template void in new slab

You guys are so awesome, thanks a bunch. I've been overworrying this since the pour two weeks ago. I knew there was quite a bit of wiggle room, but it's hard to just let it go...too much woodworker in me, I guess. Thanks a bunch guys for your brains and expertise......you all definitely gave...
