No, they just get tired with age, not starting well is probably capacitors or cold oil. A good synthetic compressor oil helps.

Those aren't really that big and are only single stage so usually should be set to turn off at 115 or so. They are a quality compressor built to run forever so after you change the rubber diaphragms on the unloader you probably won't have to do anything but change the oil for the next 40 years.

I'm not dead yet... may still use all of them.

I too have the small schumacher and have used it a lot. It works very well and I have never been confused about a battery's status. I'd still buy a big one if I stumbled across it cheap but it hasn't seemed necessary.

I have some and they are shiny, but probably the main reason I prefer proto over snap on for wrenches is the satin finish and it's slightly more grippy texture. Far easier to keep a handle on when things get messy.

I love my kid so it's snap on. Tha cat tools are an awesome value for what they carry. Proto are wonderful.

I'd be surprised if you can still take advantage of it in 20 years.
