    The VISES of Garage Journal

That's what I'm guessing now, I figure it's pretty early. Just the fact that nothing other than the Wilton and USA are present on the casting is throwing me a little. And after cleaning it up, it doesn't seem like it's been altered post casting. Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it!

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Thanks for the reply! I took a wire cup to the sides this morning to see if there's any other markings under the old paint and crud, but nothing. Only the 'Wilton' and 'USA'. Does anyone know if there was a period when the slides weren't stamped with a date code? I took a scotch pad and some...

Don't worry, I've got it covered :rocker:

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Good eye, unfortunately the dynamic jaw has been welded on. I haven't had a good look yet, but I'm hoping it's an easy repair.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Well, I was trying to curb my problem with vises.... then this thing pops up on LetGo a mere 70kms away, what am I supposed to do? :dunno: Well, I made the difficult decision to make the trip :) There aren't any identifying marks as far as where this bullet was manufactured or model, as...

    IHL Canada?

I've never bought online from them, but started my Milwaukee addiction from their retail location. Great service and a legit store

    Sheet Metal Layout tool supply?

Thanks for the replies, and I appreciate the different suggestions. Harry J. Epstein has a bunch of stuff, and the dual bar scribe that Benoit produces looks very similar to the Stanley, which are few and far between now. Hands down one of my favourite layout tools, and if mine ever grows legs...

    Sheet Metal Layout tool supply?

I was wondering if you guys could suggest a good supplier of sheet metal and ductwork specific layout tools? I've been trying to find new trammel points, dividers, rulers, scribes etc, but haven't been able to find anything locally, and for some reason my online searches have been failing...

Safety 101- Anybody wanting to share their safety tips when using their tools??

I have always made it a point to not wear gloves around spinning machinery since grade 5 shop. Our teacher always gave the speech regarding tying back hair, no long sleeves, and no gloves safety always ending it with 'if you don't, blood and guts everywhere!' Ironically, at an unnamed PPE...

    Straighten vise handle ideas

This:thumbup: If it was on clearance, or you got a hell of a deal, I'd consider fixing it yourself, but you bought a new vise, not a new damaged vise. I'd either return it, or make a deal for a partial refund.

Record no 22 quick release vice/vise restoration

Very good looking vise, and excellent job on the restore, it looks brand new! What did you print the label on? It looks completely legit!

    The VISES of Garage Journal

The No.4 looks identical to the Record 83 I recently refinished, and the No.5 identical to the Record 84. I can only imagine Parkinsons was the parent company at the time? Beautiful pair, I really envy the QR vise selection over there in the UK.

So that's what Rosemary looks like! I like it  Great job! I don't know why there aren't more colour options in the hammered finishes offered on the shelves of the hardware stores here, I've tried most of them over the past few months, and would love to see some brighter, more...

Brown Boggs & Co. Crimp roll refurb.

Thanks, I appreciate it! I had a minute or two to complete the base for the roll today. I used a piece of 1-1/2' schedule 80 pipe, and added a ring at the top to sit flush with the outside of the roll base. Cut it at a slight angle, flipped, welded, and blended it in. I remembered...

Techie! You ****! I think I was second in line for that one, but glad to see it's restoration documented here, and looking forward to seeing the results.

    2016 Garage Sale Thread

On our garage sale route, went by the ReStore and grabbed a few Grey DOE wrenches, and drill bits, set me back $11. Then Sunday, grabbed the pipe vise for $10. Unfortunately, the base is slightly bent, and has a small crack, but can't justify a complaint for the price.

Brown Boggs & Co. Crimp roll refurb.

Funny story, after being away until Tuesday, went to the shop to pick up what was remaining of the project to reassemble it at home. After looking at it once it was back on the bench, I noticed a few 'blemishes' on the fresh paint and a nut that previously threaded on flawlessly, wouldn't...

I polished the original brass tag up, and it came out pretty good considering.

Brown Boggs & Co. Crimp roll refurb.

I didn't mention it in the first post, but I made a $10 gamble last week on a jam nut ordered from Midwest Control Products in Illinois. I arrived home to a box sitting in the mailbox.... the 11/16-16 nut arrived! This was the only supplier that came up on a google search for that size, as I...

Brown Boggs & Co. Crimp roll refurb.

I'm not sure if I lucked out, or am just causing more trouble than it's worth, but this ancient relic of a crimp roll was thrown in with a bundle of sheet metal tools I recently picked up! It looks like it has had some modifications over the years, and was missing it's base, but should work...
