Directional boring? Anyone DIY a conduit under a drive/road?

I have an easement from the railroad from forever ago and its attached to the property. There are rules. I can cut it and bury a conduit, but then I have to fix it back, but it would be a lot more work. My driveway is concrete, the rest of the path is asphalt.

Directional boring? Anyone DIY a conduit under a drive/road?

I have a walking trail that crosses my driveway. I just found out that they want $6000 to deliver cable to the property. I'm assuming its becuase of the trail. This used to be a railroad, but now its just a recreational walk way. I was thinking I could run a pipe under it, I can dig down...

I bought the land, time to stop daydreaming.

Ever since 45 things seem to be going down hill much faster anticipated. lol Vision is the biggest thing, it was fine until it wasn't. Next year is 5-0, I gotta hurry the hell up if I want to be able to finish.

I got the shed door to move this weekend, boarded up the rotten front door, and loaded up a ton of **** onto the trailer to go to the dump. I move a lot slower in my 40s than I did in my 20s.

I have a neighbor behind me with a water meter 10 feet from my property. The street is 400 feet from my property, its a flag lot.

I think it will take me 6 months or more just to get the permits approved, or so I've heard. I make my first in person visit on Monday to the county. I'm kinda rushed on the ADU/Guest cottage. I need it to be fully fitted out with handicap/elder care setup as soon as possible, but I can't...

Getting the septic inspected, checked out, and capped off is part of the permitting process to remove the house. Same goes for the well, there will be a lot of permits.

Yeah, the barn flooded a little with the massive 1000 year storm in 2024, so I'm going to have to raise the barn up a couple feet to meet the requirements. The water table is really low here for Florida, so its a good spot. I had that checked before purchasing.

Wetlands contingencies mostly. You buy land in Florida, but you don't want wetlands. Wetlands are federally and state protected from development. Its really confusing at first. So even if you buy it, you can't touch it. You can't put a picnic table on it. If a plane flys over and sees you...

I bought the land, time to stop daydreaming.

I really like the idea of rigid foam insulation under the roof deck, and I bet its not a thing they even consider here in Florida. Its going to be a challenge. My first challenge is getting city water. I have a water meter less than 10 feet from my back wall, but they will probably charge me...

Luckily I have friends that are experienced contractors, and I will be buying one of them an expensive steak tonight to celebrate closing. They don't want my job, but they will point me at good subs and answer general questions. I can't afford a general contractor, so this is going to be an...

Unfortunately for me, I have a college degree in Architecture that I have never used, so I'm already full of bad ideas. The garage budget is just the dried in structure, nothing inside. No AC, no utilities, no lights, just dried in. There is existing well and septic that will be re-used...

I like wood because I know how to handle wood, I have experience with framing and insulating wood walls. I have zero experience with steel other than ripping out steel studs and replacing them with wood in previous projects. I don't know if wood/steel is better than the other. I have 130mph...

I intentionally haven't put much thought towards the project, this is the 6th property I have been under contract on, and working on plans with no site doesn't really make sense. I honestly didn't expect it to close. The house is budgeted at $250 a square foot, I'm planning on paying a...

Do I want to look at pole barns or red iron for a largeish barn/garage? I like the idea that I know how to do framing and have experience with that, but the red iron steel buildings are interesting. I'm day dreaming about 4-5000 square feet, but IDK what the actual costs will be like. 40x120...

I bought the land, time to stop daydreaming.

I closed on the land this week. The most expensive thing I have ever bought. Been saving up for this a long time. I have multiple expensive surveys, soil samples, wetlands delineations, and tree inspections. Its fantastic land, lots of oaks in excess of 36 inches at chest height, excellent...

I live in Florida, do I want gas?

Essentially yes, there is a small shed that's ~25x30 with recent 2024 flood damage and a 1600 square foot house that you don't want to enter without a mask on. However there is a good working well and existing septic tank. We bought it for the land.

I live in Florida, do I want gas?

The plan is a shop of some undetermined size, I am getting lots of input and trying to learn as much as I can. A 2500 square foot farmhouse with a nice big back porch, an 875 square foot 1 bedroom ADU, both made out of block, and then the barn/garage/shop. Needs room for 2 lifts, and the...

I live in Florida, do I want gas?

Idk about chilling a pool, maybe in South Florida. The problem with solar is where to put it. You can't put it on the house, becuase if you have storm damage the roofing guys won't want to touch them, and the solar guys won't do it either. If you get a re-roof the solar panels pretty much go...
