    Rate My Stair install...

I already bought the 1x6s to fill in the gaps, I figure that its always better to follow the free advice on GJ than to ignore it. lol

    Rate My Stair install...

Its not my property, and the door doesn't lock so that would immediately cause the HOA to go nuclear.

    Rate My Stair install...

This is outdoors, there is a door to the power meters, but its basically open to the elements, rain, etc. Trying to make them watertight is an impossible errand. Everyone is really worked up on the risers, I personally didn't want risers because that would allow the wood to dry faster, in...

    Rate My Stair install...

Why do I need a toe kick? They were concrete steps before just like this.

I don't understand what you mean. Each tread is 36" of a 2x12.

    Rate My Stair install...

I got some good feedback from everyone here at GJ and yesterday one of the stairs just collapsed a few inches, so I just couldn't procrastinate any longer on replacing the stairs. Its roughly 36 inches wide, concrete block on both sides, and 14 steps up. I used some leftover plastic brick...

    Water Heater Options

If your water heater is in the garage, then the heat pump is a great option. My power company offered a $750 rebate to install one, and I had it a solid decade with no issues. You can keep the old water heater and use it as a pre-warm tank so the water comes up to room temp before entering the...

How to treat wood sitting on concrete?

Come to think of it, I have some Come to think of it, I have some foam imitation trim that I bought for the shower, so I could just cut a piece of that. Looks like the only part touching the concrete is roughly 2x8 so that should work. Plus its lag screwed into the concrete walls on both sides.

How to treat wood sitting on concrete?

I'm thinking its time to replace the rotten exterior stairs and its not complicated but its probably going to take me a whole weekend to do it. One day to figure out the stringers and second guess myself to death and finally cut them, then a few hours to assemble, an hour to paint, and 2 hours...

Anyone here know how diverter valves work?

I'm guessing this might be the case, it does have really good water pressure. When its all the way open I don't see how it keeps water from going to the shower head, when its closed water can not go to the tub spout.

Anyone here know how diverter valves work?

Sounds like mine works the opposite way, maybe it was installed backwards?

Anyone here know how diverter valves work?

I think I replaced the seat at some point around 2005, but the seat doesn't appear to be the issue. When you turn the valve clockwise the rubber seal on the front presses into the seat and blocks the water from going to the tub spout. When you turn it counter clock wise it is not touching the...

Chin up bar from the rafters?

The shower curtain rods in my school dormitory were on 3/4 inch pipe going from stall to stall. It was more than enough for us to do pull ups. It was just a bar, some 90 degree ends, and some screw on end flanges Granted the shower walls were block, but this could hold two of you. I also...

Anyone here know how diverter valves work?

I have a 50+ year old shower with a hot and a cold valve and a diverter in the middle that sends water to the tub spout or the shower head. Pretty sure the brand is central brass, but not 100%, but it looks exactly like this valve down to the threading...

Do A/C refrigerant lines need to be in conduit when run indoors?

You can just go to any supply house and get copper (Or Lowes/HD if its under 25 feet), I replace all the flares on every pipe I install because they have been bad more than half the time. Plus that refrigerant is super expensive so you don't want to waste it. Insulation is cheap, and the...

    Your Favorite Battery Powered Tools?

I'm going to be building a new house in the next year, and I'm sure I should be investing in some new tools. Currently I have plenty of Ryobi 18v tools I have accumulated over the years, but maybe its time to step up to a different brand. I need a track saw and a framing nailer, a table saw...

    Above 1200 Sq/FT Clean Room

This is a placeholder for my next journey. Sold my old home last year and have been searching for a piece of dirt. Housing prices are complete insanity, and contractors are charging top dollar, so this will eventually be my new home. Currently we are waiting on 2 things: 1) Soil Test 2)...

Starting the garage plan, what should I include?

This looks great. How high are the ceilings? You went with the cambered trusses? How wide are the trusses and about how much were they each? I'm coming to the realization that I need to draft up my plans. I haven't drafted anything in 20 years. Ironically, I have a useless degree in...

Starting the garage plan, what should I include?

I helped a buddy of mine lift his trusses with a giant forklift he rented. It was a lot of work, but we got it done. I like the idea of garage storage, I have a lot of spare parts that have to go somewhere.
