For future documentation I just drilled out the hole and tapped the one side so I could use a screw and lock washer to keep the joint tight.

I would say no. The intent is that nails and screws can't puncture and short out the wire. If the exterior siding has to be replaced the wires could be punctured then.

Jori, I am assuming for this it is possible to place the order on the 4th and select pick up in store as an option? I am somewhat local (about 1 hr drive) and would also like to handle a few tools before buying so a pickup would be ideal. Thanks for the information!
