how about carpet tiles? they are rubber backed and thin...they would go great over the bare floor... get on amazon and do a search for "dean carpet tiles" $1 a sq ft shipped...just throw them down and go...

whats the sidewall height? i dont think a 3 ton is enough... Also look into Pioneer brand... highseer.com or on amazon. I installed one of their 2 ton units in my office, which is a 650 sq ft loft upstairs in my shop. Been a good unit.
