Over the winter I had a sore throat. I put a lot of salt into some hot water then left it on the counter to sip for an occasional gargle. It had free salt in the bottom and salt collected around the top. Picturesque. One day I noticed it had made giant crystals in the bottom. I was...

Missed me by a mile. But it's been busy around here. Lots of houses lost. I seem to remember missing a piece of brass stock. Thanks! No, he took mine. Wait, were you here too? That you were here? Oh ****, my memory is failing. Good news is it appears the primer bulb was the air...

Probably a hold down to put your foot on when you try to stall the grinder... Edit: I posted before reading all the thread. Who expected anything anyway?

It is such a blessing that your parents can make themselves available. The kids looking in their door tore me up.

I regularly have someone call me and insist I go back to work for them. I've boiled it down to "You'll want me to talk to people I don't like", they agree and understand.

Holy **** brother! You've already got your new engine in a rubbish bin. Don't give up so easily brother. Speaking of spark plugs, I was very surprised to find Chevrolet 216 engines prior to prior to 1949 used 10mm thread plugs with a 5/8" hex. All my adult life I thought those were a new...

I greatly enjoyed your conversion of 40-60mm into imperial measurements. However, as an old engineer, one of my pet peeves was young engineers missing the intended accuracy of the specified number. We were doing a project in Nigeria for a British consulting firm. They had specified 1 m...

Thank you! Bob the cat or Bob the one armed bandit? Both are valuable associates. I really like making things out of scrap brass. I'm not much of a machinist but if you go slow you can do quite a bit.

Thanks, JB. I've replaced the line from the tank to the lift pump, but haven't replaced the primer bulb yet. I put plastic under it and keep a fresh paper towel on the plastic. It is at the low point and no stain on the towel at all.

Oh man! Words can't express, anything. I lost my wife of forty years in 2019, we had plenty of time and not nearly enough. May God bless you as you do your most important task of providing for those precious children. I cannot imagine.

Looking good! Got a question, it looks like the builder put up the gable tin then trimmed it in place. We usually cut it on the ground. How did they cut it? Your helper shows marvelous enthusiasm!

And installed. And yes, it didn't solve the air leak problem. Next I'm going to replace the lift pump, then the primer bulb. But I don't need the Bobcat right now so I'm replacing things one step at a time to determine where the issue originates. The lift pump is only three years old but...

It's not a big thing, but it gave me joy. I'm having fits finding an air leak in my Bobcat fuel system. I'm changing one section at a time to find the source of an air lock when it sets for more than a day. During this effort I changed all the fuel hose. 5/16" ID. After getting new hose on...

I've riveted my share of sickle sections. Then I got a fancy punch on one side/rivet header on the other and life was easier for a few months. Cold chisel of both rivet heads and the punch makes short work of it. The header makes the most beautiful cold rivets ever. And in the mower. A...

Of course there's a chance it is magnesium. Mag wheels were magnesium at one time. So are lots of chainsaw and trimmer engines. Magnesium in a foundry furnace makes a really big show you won't soon forget. Maybe a show that will last a lifetime.

Thanks, JB. Building a gate is a significant tradeoff between strength and weight. Most commercial gates are quite light and fit for service but feel pretty flimsy if you shake them. Those that are home made tend to be very strong and very heavy and consequentially hard to hold up over long...
