Modifications to the HF 4 and 5 drawer service carts - what changes have you made?

Went to Lowe’s today on my way home and was looking for that rubber rug runner for a tool box top, saw it mentioned in another thread. Couldn’t find any bit did happen to find a nice rubber mat, 3x4, with a tear on the edge. Got it for $9 out the door after a little haggling (normally $22 and...

Help Me Choose - Tekton vs Icon

See post 125. Also, HF sells Icon ratcheting wrenches without any type of anti slip design on the open end, same price.

Help Me Choose - Tekton vs Icon

My apologies, the Icon appear to be a long pattern whereas the Dewalt are a standard length. Icon’s are $150 for a 10 piece set and the Dewalt can be had for around $90 for a 12 piece set.

Help Me Choose - Tekton vs Icon

Icon is overpriced, period. The only icon tools I would consider are their ratchet wrenches and torque wrench, however... You can buy the SAME ratchet wrench sets from Dewalt for 2/3 the price. And you can buy a better quality torque wrench from CDI for roughly the same price or a little...

    Socket selection

Had them, and sold them. While I really liked the electro plated finish on them vs the standard black oxide on almost every other manufacturer out there, I couldn’t get past the COO (China). Don’t get me wrong, the fit and finish on them were great, but I found the Sunex to be slightly cheaper...

"Build" a Matco swivel ratchet for $33

Fixed that number for you. That’s what showed up when I searched Lowes.

    Tekton is awesome!

I got the newer 1/4” socket set when it first came out; excellent quality/price ratio. Super happy with them. Just bought the 30pc Metric/SAE wrench set the other week after deciding I had enough of the sloppy QC on the Gearwrench 40something piece set and sold them off. Considered buying...

How does your Socket top drawer look ?

Top of my HF cart: HF socket trays with the center dividers cut out. No worries about skipped sizes now.

    Socket Organization

I’m using the HF trays which I think are the best bang for the buck. I scored the center dividers (the piece with the sizes printed on them) and snapped them off. Now all my sockets fit and I’m not worried about missing sizes or whatever.

Modifications to the HF 4 and 5 drawer service carts - what changes have you made?

Added another pegboard under the folding tray, a magnetic tool holder for my grease gun, and a magnetic tray that I took the magnets off and riveted to the bottom tray for my hand packer, CV grease, and some funnels. I used one of the magnets from the tray to secure the tip of the grease gun...

Modifications to the HF 4 and 5 drawer service carts - what changes have you made?

They do. I just used a 25% coupon to purchase the magnetic shelf today. Exclusions are always in the fine print of the coupon.

Modifications to the HF 4 and 5 drawer service carts - what changes have you made?

I put some of those magnetic tool holders to use... I riveted two in above each spray can holder. What I like about this is it keeps all the cans from rattling around and possibly spilling out when rolling the cart around. Especially nice for the upper holder as it keeps all the smaller...

Modifications to the HF 4 and 5 drawer service carts - what changes have you made?

Pegboard is installed... Also swapped out the crappy drawer liners for a nicer material I found at Lowe’s. Waiting on some tools to show up, then I can get a Prybar rack fabricated and I’ll probably to a little tool cart tour. Thanks to everyone in this thread for putting out some awesome...

Modifications to the HF 4 and 5 drawer service carts - what changes have you made?

So I was perusing Lowes today and stumbled upon this steel pegboard panel. Come to find out that if you rotate the side cross bar on the cart so that the lip is facing down instead of up, the panel fits in there like it was meant for it! There’s mounting tabs on sides of the panel that are...

Modifications to the HF 4 and 5 drawer service carts - what changes have you made?

I’ll let the picture speak for itself... It’s pretty much buttoned up. Just need to touch up some paint in a few spots, tighten down a few bolts, and figure out a way to secure the bottom drawer section. I’m really happy with it! I ended up trashing the spare cart idea, so I put all four...

Modifications to the HF 4 and 5 drawer service carts - what changes have you made?

Okay, one side of the top section done... Had to drill out the rivets for one slide and add two slides. I made two new spacer blocks out of wood to get the slides square and it worked great. Note to anyone who may attempt this mod, take the time and cover all of your slides with masking...

Help me choose some combo wrenches.

I’ll jump in here. I just sold my Gearwrench long pattern combos and replaced them with Tekton. I can’t speak for the Tekton wrenches yet as I don’t have them in hand (will be here tomorrow), but the Gearwrench left a little to be desired. If your needing decent quality on larger size...

Modifications to the HF 4 and 5 drawer service carts - what changes have you made?

I got a little excited, started laying out how I was going to fit all my tools in the cart and adding some accessories. In doing this, with all the weight added, I realized how flimsy the whole cart is. So I’m thinking that the top and bottom sections absolutely need to be secured to each...

Modifications to the HF 4 and 5 drawer service carts - what changes have you made?

Some progress... Bad picture but you get the idea. I got the bottom drawer section touched up with some gloss black enamel. Uprights and cross bars (all but the front) are installed. I cut up some of the drawer liner material and put pieces in between the bolting junctions to hopefully cut...

Modifications to the HF 4 and 5 drawer service carts - what changes have you made?

Cheaper than a 44 with comparable storage space and a much smaller footprint. Space savings and modularity is my driving factor here. YMMV.
