    Torque wrench storage

^I was going to suggest this. Buy $9.99 Harbor Freight Torque Wrench, throw wrench in the trash where it won't hurt anyone, put good wrench in the case. I had a brand new HF 3/8" torque wrench that was reading about 75% under right out of the box.

277 sure feels like high voltage when it grabs a hold of you :shocking:

    grey wire for neutral

Grey is perfectly fine for Neutrals, the code says use White or Natural Grey for Neutrals, the industry decided to make 120/208 White w/Black Red & Blue phases and 277/480 Grey w/Brown Orange Yellow phases, but that specific color code is not a part of the NEC's code requirements.

    Socket Questions

I'd label myself an Expert Beginner  Did my first engine swap 30 years ago on the street in front of my house with a rented engine crane and barely a set of my own tools. Now I have a garage and lots of tools but I swear sometimes my skills have slipped since I was a teenager doing swaps...

Metric combination wrenches - Carlyle or Sunex?

Sunex wrenches are decent, not great, but OK if the price is good. I wouldn't go out of my way to buy more, I used them to fill in some gaps in a Matco RC set of Combination Wrenches till I got replacements, you can usually find the Sunex wrenches pretty cheap one at a time. For full sets in...

New Tekton USA Made Angle Wrenches

Nice wrench sets, REALLY glad to see Tekton making more tools here in the USA. I just own a few open/open wrenches like this, each bought for a special purpose, but these look too nice to not buy a set or two  one more note: ^we really need a "Like" or a "Thank You" button here...

American Made Vise Grips - DeWitt Plant Reopens

Fantastic news! Thanks for posting, It will be good to move every new pair I've bought in the last 10 years into the "spares" drawer, and have some real locking pliers back again.

    Vintage emergency ignition coil

I bet that coil will fire and run an engine, but I wonder if it would be able to pull a lot of RPMs(?) On another note, I had my underhood wire harness catch fire and melt on an old Full Size Jeep pickup on the drive home from work. Coasted into a parking lot, disconnected the whole melted...

    Tool price increase coming?

I don't know what they're not obeying, but China should do what's in China's best interest. If there's some third party treaty they're not obeying then they should take it up with whatever governing body they agreed to, or remove themselves from the treaty. If you mean obey the USA at some...

    Tool price increase coming?

That could be true, I believe Chinese culture looks at its great history and sees itself as superior to "The West" already. and I know that the Chinese People and the Chinese Government are two completely different things, and in some respects their goals are worlds apart from each other...

    Tool price increase coming?

I didn't grow up in China, so I can only have a westerner's idea of what China and Xi are doing and planning for the short and long term. I do know pride and "face" are fundementals of the Chinese culture, I believe the Chinese named the Century of Humiliation themselves as it reflects a dark...

    Tool price increase coming?

The ones I looked at over the last 8 years were closer to .25% The Federal Reserve has been cranking interest rates up like crazy since Dec 2016, I got a mailer from a bank yesterday for a 2.5% 18 month CD, I guess (hope!) the economy can sustain those rates again.

    Tool price increase coming?

China plans for the long term, 70 years ago their "100 years of humiliation" came to an end, the table is set for them to return the favor. Maybe it will happen and maybe it won't, but they sure appear to be trying.

    Torx??

These stubby VIM's are nicely made and others have reported very strong. I have a set but haven't abused them that much yet https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000VUM6BU/?tag=atomicindus08-20

    Thorogood boots are expensive!

Even though the thread started out as a gag, these Thorogoods went on sale for $126 last November, (currently $185), so I tried a pair. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HWYWIMK/?tag=atomicindus08-20 Unlike most "good" boots I've had, they were comfortable on day one. 10 months later the...

New to me Matco 3 Bay, But WHat To Do WIth This Screwed Up Top Drawer?

Since this is OCD driven..... the first two things MY OCD would make me do would be to flip those light switch boxes in the pic 90 degrees, so the sideways switches wouldn't make me crazy, then I'd have to figure out a way to slide the Husky box over so the smaller left hand drawers of the...

Vote for the Worst Harbor Freight Item

I didn't read the whole thread, but the only HF tools I've had so far that break 100% of the time are: those plastic grip clamps they break Every Single Time and the exhaust pipe expander. I'd get like 2 expansions out of it before the bolt strips, then maybe 4 more after swapping in a HD...

Bending EMT for beginners? Help please.

Last couple points, since it's your own shop, and you mentioned going around multiple obstacles... if you put a piece up, and it's straight, all the bends line up right exactly the way you thought you wanted them, but it doesn't look right because it doesn't hug the corner right, or tucks out...

Bending EMT for beginners? Help please.

Repeatability is key, a 90 is 90 degrees, you overbend it a little (spring back) to get there and check it against a known 90. Being able to make the same 90 over and over helps, then you learn how to bend an offset (two equal bends in opposite directions) then 4 bend saddles (two offsets) then...

    12pt Metric Sockets, useless?

I didn't want to overcomplicate my response, but I agree  I was thinking of this as 2a: after the tucked away 12pt becomes useful and necessary for some job, buy the whole set of 12pts. ^which will still mean having one extra socket because buying the whole rack of 12 points is...
