Mohawk System 1 install - correct distance?

The arms are not long enough to reach the proper points. I called mohawk and my dealer after the unit was installed, and found this out. Told them I had done my homework so there would be no surprises. There was some back and forth emails, then nothing but crickets. The mohawk is a great lift...

Mohawk System 1 install - correct distance?

Essentially same money as Mohawk. The 2 stage mohawk arms are not enough to pick up a Mercedes Sprinter van at the proper points. Was told the mohawk 2 stage would lift ALL regular vehicles out there currently. They lied. At some point, the mohawk will go, and I will get the nussbaum. Build...

Mohawk System 1 install - correct distance?

Mohawk makes a 3 section arm, for an upcharge. I have had their 16k lift for about 2 years now. That said, buy a Nussbaum. Much better articulating arms. Wish I had known.....

Vapor retarded paint instead of poly?

Nobody can give accurate info without knowing the exact composition of walls. We know you have a stud bay full of rockwool unfaced- good You should be using a vapor barrier- 6 mil poly- good- behind plywood or sheetrock. But, what is your sheathing outside? What is your housewrap product...

    Plaster walls. Please help me.

Typically patching plaster, and sanding the taping is going to create 2 different surfaces initially. The plaster is old, and has been painted several times, usually taking on the texture of the roller used in painting. Sanded taping is initally very smooth, just like the plaster was and a few...

Can anyone ID this wood type?

Oak would certainly be a standard specie stocked by home depot, but maple is unlikely. Maple is typically a higher end "order only" product. So, Beech is a standard product offering and would fit that picture, though the pics are not nearly good enough for positive ID.

    Getting a quote for insulation

Technically, "heat" radiates equally in all directions. However, "hot air" does rise. Depending on your heating system, this makes a very big difference.

    Spray foam gone bad

That setup is all wrong. Foam should be applied to backside of sheathing, not a fabric or tyvek type sheeting.

where to get the best hot dipped galvanized roofing nails?

Not quite. Most inexpensive big box type galvanized nails are not “hot dipped” , they are electro-plated which is a much, much thinner and inferior coating process. Some roofs put on with electroplated nails have had the heads rust right off, even before the roof warranty expires. Maze hot...

If it is inside concrete walls, and the soil/ gravel under is well drained and solid, just fill with the inexpensive stuff. It is stone, it will not compact any real amount.

Whats better on an existing foundation wall, cinderblock or poured concrete?

Perfect application for ICF as already said. No need to hire a forming contractor. A few hundred $ in ICF block, about $30-50 rebar, a handsaw, stack’em and pour it. About 4 hours work. ICF really shines on small projects because you don’t need to involve others.

Wisdom of crowds 2: to gutter or not to gutter in snow country

As was said above, 3’ overhangs, and no gutters is a logical approach. Putting gutters on is just going to create a problem for another day. Or, put another way, the roof is sloped to get rid of water, snow and ice expediently. Don’t try to slow it down with gutters. Snow birds will just get...

Tongue and groove paneling over OSB?

For what you want to accomplish, using OSB , and nailing the pine t&g to it is a perfectly sound plan, you should have no issues. It’s paneling, not structure, so the nail holding is not an issue to worry about.

Rafter Tie vs 6” Timberlok screw

The single Fastenmaster screw has either 2 or 3 times the uplift rating of one of those little Simpson bowtie type hurricane clips if I remember. More than adequate unless you need to secure certain types of girder trusses. Then , you just use one in each ply, and you are still usually way over...

Rafter Tie vs 6” Timberlok screw

Any company that artificially creates a problem, then develops, tests and patents a proprietary solution, AND lobbies the building code enforcement and creation officials is effectively creating the problem, AND their sole solution. I have less than zero interest in contributing to that...

    Weed whacker recommendations?

Generally speaking, the Stihl commercial grade units are about the best you can get..... UNLESS you can find a Shindiawa dealer- Far and away, the best trimmer you can find. Period. End of story. The pro guys around here run these exclusively. Do some homework and see how they are made. Oh, and...

    Best Shower Head?

Sometimes the problem aint the shower head, but the shower valve. I put in a Symmons Temptrol once we started having kids, so they wouldn’t get burned. Pressure and volume not the same since. Buddy of mine who does plumbing, says no way to override the valve itself.
