    5x8 cargo trailer questions

I also stress bigger is better but if going with a 5x8, make sure you measure before buying. I made a mistake on a previous trailer purchase, bought a 5x8 and assumed that it was truly a 5x8. Interior space was actually more like 4'10"x7'8". I could never use it for sheet goods which drove me...

    Did you OSB?

After going back and forth at least a hundred times I had finally decided that my walls were going to be finished with OSB. I like the utility and I actually like the look. I was at peace with my decision and relieved to have the back and forth off of my mind. I've seen OSB walls painted and I...

HF US General 26” vs 44”

You're welcome. Just in case anyone is interested in the 44", here is the best current coupon on that one too. I'm not sure why these two coupons don't pop up on regular searches but they are legit, just used the 26" one this week.

Here's a better coupon. Sorry for the quality but it works all the same.

How many Ceiling fans are in your shop?

Sometimes the shop gets overloaded with air in one place and if I'm trying to do a project in that area it gets in my way. The fans help me to move the air to another part of the shop allowing me space to work.

Dilemma: Need engineered plans just to get price quotes

Smartside can be installed on a pole building. Also, pole buildings are built before concrete is poured so if you were just looking for a shell and can live without a slab for awhile, that is the way you should go. You should easily be able to find yourself a contractor that will build one...

Dilemma: Need engineered plans just to get price quotes

Based on your criteria, you essentially have two options, steel or pole. Stick built will be beyond your budget. The good thing is that both of your options should solve a lot of your dilemma, most steel building kit sellers or contractors will be able to provide you a price based on the...

    Finally finishing out the shop

I looked into fiberglass batting but found that I could get open cell foam installed for not much more than it would cost me to fiberglass myself. Win/win in my book, better product, less work for me. I'm doing OSB walls, I've read all of the threads on the pros and cons and just think that OSB...

How many Ceiling fans are in your shop?

36x56, 12' ceilings and I have (2) 72" fans and (1) 54" fan. They were just installed last month and it's been cold so I'm unable to report on how well they work.

Dilemma: Need engineered plans just to get price quotes

This is why you're having a problem getting quotes. They take time and the fact that you keep going in circles and don't know what you want is apparent to everyone. Construction is booming in most areas and most people would rather prioritize their time with people that are past the tire kicking...

I just impulse bought a welder

Thanks to this thread, I impulse bought a welder too. I've never welded before but have wanted to learn for awhile. For $180 plus some accessories (HF helmet, gloves, cart), it was too cheap to pass up.

HF US General 26” vs 44”

I did the only reasonable thing in regards to this comparison, I bought both. More specifically, two 44's and one 26, blue of course. I think the OP is overthinking things, the 26" at $229 (best current coupon price) is a smoking deal. Is it an industrial box? Of course not but it wasn't...

Moving my shop half way across the country... anyone have advice?

Sort of off topic but Portland? I grew up there (left in 1992) and still have a lot of family there. It's still gorgeous aesthetically but that's about all I have to say positive about it. I've been back twice in the last year and wow, it's gone way downhill,(traffic is awful, prices are very...

Moving my shop half way across the country... anyone have advice?

That was the CliffsNotes version. The full story is a bit more colorful. There is a reason that I declined the 'opportunity' to drive the third rig. The friend was less wise than I. We used them twice. They weren't cheap but they were the cheapest realistic option. Regular moving companies...

Moving my shop half way across the country... anyone have advice?

My parents did a similar move (Far North California to Texas) a few years ago. They moved two daily drivers, a race car, two antique trucks, a motor home, two large trailers, a workshop and an accumulation of other **** from a house they had lived in for 30 years. They rented a large U-haul...

    First time garage building

I built my dad a pole building, I actually liked many aspects of it and it was cheaper than doing a traditional stick built (less labor and materials). Materials - $29,000 (based on Menards quote + tax and delivery. Does that include trusses, siding and roofing?) Labor - $11,000 (rough, could...

Buying building package and storing outside

Agreed. No way in the world would I let my lumber package sit in the elements for any length of time. This is especially true during a season change which will be even more hard on it. My trusses sat for only a week, during a time where the weather was consistent and even then, they warped...

    Stick vs: Steel Garage

In my opinion, steel has only two advantages over stick built, cost and termites. Outside of that, stick built hands down. It's true that stick built is more expensive but yes, if you're planning on adding brick/stone and gussying it up, those price differences begin to shrink. It's also true...

    TX 36x56 with attic

My current interior height from floor to the bottom of truss is around 8'2". I'm expecting to have an 8' ceiling once I do drywall and a finished floor.

    First time garage building

"So I want to limit a $75,000 loan to cover the cost to frame it up with the doors, exterior and hopefully get floor and insulation done within my first stage budget. I will do electricity, lighting, and plumbing myself over the summer". Are you doing a metal shop or stick built. As was...
