    Attic or no attic?

I think I've made up my mind, attic trusses it is. Even if I leave it as just naked trusses, Jinks it probably correct. Thank you everyone, this was a big help.

    Attic or no attic?

I hate pull down attic stairs, especially if they were to be installed at a 12' plate. It makes carrying anything up or down them almost impossible. I don't really need an attic for storage, the one in the house is sufficient. This would only be for potential living space down the road. I...

    Attic or no attic?

I shouldn't need stairs, just a ladder. Something like the picture linked here. You can never have enough storage, that is true. That's where I'm stuck now, it costs me about $900 to put the trusses in and if I never use them, no harm no foul. If I don't use them and should I ever need them...

    Attic or no attic?

If I do the storage/scissor trusses I'll go with a 6/12. If I go full attic it will be 8/12. It won't be cavernous inside but should be usable. I shouldn't have any code or occupancy issues, my neighbor just built a shop with a full attic and inside stairs.

    Attic or no attic?

I'm doing closed cell insulation and a full HVAC system so heating and cooling shouldn't be an issue. I would be doing a full staircase because pull down stairs at a 12' plate would be a no go. 72' is also a no go, the slab is already poured. Even if it wasn't, the wife and HOA are in agreement...

    Attic or no attic?

I created a thread a few months back (link below) in preparation for my build and was able to sort out all of my questions but one, to do attic trusses or not. My options are; * Storage trusses on each end of the building and scissor trusses between them which will allow me two large off floor...

Machine to dig 12" wide trench

The mini excavator is the right tool for the job. I just had all of my footings dug and was going to rent one and do it myself but found I could hire someone to do it for a lot less. Home Depot had the cheapest rental fees I could find in the area, $259 for four hours or $359 for 24. The guy...

    I bought a Worth lift......

I've driven by the facility twice in the last week. I didn't go in and didn't take pictures but have to say, the facility didn't give me warm fuzzies. I'm not sure what I expected it to look like but it certainly didn't look like an operation that was thriving. Then again, I appreciate...

    Finalizing Shop plans, feedback encouraged

After talking to my plumber and electrician, my plan is to dig one trench for everything. The electrician wants to have 1' of separation which is fine. I'll dig a 3' trench, put electrical in the bottom, fill in 1' of soil and do plumbing above. I can run coax and two cat 6 in one conduit at...

    Finalizing Shop plans, feedback encouraged

I just got approval for my permit and Digtess has been scheduled. Knock on wood, I'll be trenching this weekend in the 110 degree Texas heat. My plan is still to run a conduit with a coax line and two cat 6 lines, I'll probably add a pull string or two as well just in case future technology will...

    I bought a Worth lift......

I'll see if I can do that. I need to go to Mansfield today anyways so I'll try to fit it into the schedule.

    I bought a Worth lift......

This thread is unfortunate. My shop is just about to break ground and I was about to contact Worth to place an order. I live about ten minutes from them and was excited to be so close in the event of needing service, repair or parts. After seeing the complaints of shoddy finish quality, as well...

    Garage wall finishing

I've been a lurker long enough to know that most of the long time members are going to ignore your question. It could be worse though, I'm shocked that you haven't had a few come in here and make some snarky comments about search features or similar. It is true, there are many, many threads on...

    New garage suggestions

I wouldn't have less than 2' on each side if you can help it, 3' would be even better. I have to have only 18" on mine and I'm going to hate it. If you go less than 2' you almost completely eliminate that wall for any type of storage. It also makes it a chore to get in and out of a car on the...

    New garage suggestions

Besides the maintenance of two sets of doors, springs, motors etc, it seemed like I was always needing them to be just a bit wider and a large single door opens up the possibility for damn near anything to fit through it. I considered 12' tall as well but I've never needed that much height...

    New garage suggestions

I've had double doors and cursed them endlessly. I would absolutely go with a single and would pay more to do so, nevermind the fact that you'd be saving $1,000. I'm almost ready to build mine and it's single all of the way, I just can't decide between 18x10 and 16x10. I'm leaning 18', the wider...

    Finalizing Shop plans, feedback encouraged

Our old house closes on the 12th so I'm getting that much closer to breaking ground. I plan on finalizing the footprint and getting the foundation plans to engineering next week (city requires their sign off), applying for permits the week after and breaking ground almost immediately after...

Moving out of state - what to do with tools?

This is what I did, even made money on the trailer. Leaving my tools behind never crossed my mind.

New Build Garage - What do you wish you had done?

The city annexed my area on January 1st so I need to play by their rules. They would never allow any type of system like you describe so I'm going to have to install a lift station and run the plumbing to my existing septic system. It won't be terribly expensive but not cheap either, probably...
