Respectfully, i think this is user error. Perhaps your spouse indeed just painted too slowly. Did you try painting it yourself with some more pace? Like someone else mentioned, get the sherwin williams urethane trim enamel. Its excellent.

Thanks cody. I appreciate the reply. I used the messmers on cedar siding and its held up great after two coats. It was great on the porch, and still is in the areas that dont get wind driven rain/heavy foot traffic. Ie: beads water like wax. I feel most products will just need annual...

Hi all Looking for a durable coating for an outdoor porch. Covered, aside from wind driven rain. A marine type deck coating? Any ideas? Coated 2 years ago with Messmers. Prior to that i am not sure what was used. Not sure of the wood species. Thanks for everyones insight.

My vote is a mudmixer, but with an extra helper. Ive run many yards through them. Slow and steady. Youll get about 1 yard mixed / poured per hour. Its too much for one person alone to mix, pour and finish 1 yard of flatwork. Especially a with a drum mixer. Atleast working like a gentleman.

Oh, TJI’s / I joists. Really wont work for the application of a stair stringer. Even in a floor joist application, they are limited on length - more than an appropriately sized LVL. Check load charts / span length for yourselves.

Firebrick - your saying nail a 2x4 on the flat (its weakest axis) to the bottom of the 2x12 stair stringer? That wont do anything. Better sistering up. Or as mentioned above, and even better - put vertical support posts at mid span. Or - do an LVL Beam for the stringers.
