Going from late year Craftsman sockets to…

I use to have all late 90’s craftsman I sold all of the socket sets but kept my combo wrenches as they were a good maker. I slowly bought used sets of S&k until I have 1/4,3/8 and 1/2. I bought several of the new sk ratchets when they came out and they are ok. I thought everyone was just a snob...

REED R Series. Post your Reed date stamps.

Had really good luck with Reeds lately found a 105R and a 1041/2R. The 105R has some issues needs an handle and split nut is three pieces instead of two but don’t think that will hurt it. The slide is pretty beat up near the jaw as someone beat on a few things while clamped. Seems to still...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Just acquired a new to me Reed 105R. The slide has been beat on quite a bit to where it cupped the metal some up close to the jaw. I cleaned it up removed the paint and see no evidence of any cracks anywhere on the jaw or slide. I guess the cupped metal doesn’t hurt anything since it slides in...

    Snap on T72 Repair kit

Snap on sent me a repair kit for my t72 ratchet but it had no o ring on the selector switch. I had thrown away the old internals so can’t use the old o ring. Does anyone know what size or o ring I could buy for this. I know they would probably send me a new kit but this seems a simple fix with...

US General Series 2 vs. 3 Color

FYI They are starting to close out some of their Series 2 stuff. I bought a top and bottom 44" blue series 2 when they came out. Had to call around some this weekend but located a side cabinet and a locker in blue cost me a little over $200 for both. The series 3 is really nice but more than...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

The vise itself did not interest me as much as the cast in writing. Just very curious about its origins. I didn’t understand the bv1 and bv2 unless they are just part numbers??

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I am working on a vise stand from semi brake drum. I wanted to make the top mounting plate capable of bolting various things to it. I read through the stand threads. Wondering if anyone came up with a slotted hole pattern that would fit most bolt patterns.

I added the pictures in my post above but was also lucky enough to find a wrench on eBay yesterday. Will just have to fabricate the wire retainer.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Well taking it apart tonight everything looks pretty good. I had to recut the threads for the handle brake all the pieces of it are missing but they hit it with a hammer or something to damage the threads. The drum brake system is different than others I have seen. It is connected to the vise...

I just picked up a real nice Charles Parker 239X only things missing are the wrench of course and the tension assembly for the handle. I saw another thread that helped me with that. I don’t see much info on the 239x here was it less common? Does anyone know the history of this I looked it up...

What’s your favorite measuring tape and why?

I was building a deck a few years ago and my classic Stanley broke. I thought I would try something else. Ended up buyin a fat max, Milwaukee, dewalt because I never like any of them. They all advertised the great stand out distance but I found when working outside the wind just catches and...

How do you rebuild a Chas Parker vise spindle "brake" ?

I just bought a nice Parker with this missing as well. Was looking on McMaster carr and they have 5/16x24 steel set screws with soft brass tips. Would that work or you think the spring is essential to the operation??

    Reed Vise 31

Well I bought a Reed Vise 31 in really great condition or so I thought until I cleaned it a little bit. Has sure signs of brazing the moveable jaw back together. Whoever did it did a great job feathering it back in but it is going to bother me. Luckily I didn’t pay much for it. Was thinking...
