Helping a friend restore an old post vise. Anyone have any info on the brand? I took the wire wheel to it and couldn’t find any markings. The spring is messed up because it won’t spring out.

Lots of those were made by Columbian or the more premium Peter Wright. I don’t know how to identify brands based on general shapes of the details of construction.

There is a blacksmith vises thread in vintage tools section that might have more pictures and or help for you. Good luck!!

I think I started it about a decade ago and named it blacksmith vises 101 or something like that
