I have done it both ways and have the kit with the tiny HVAC pressure washer. At times the wheel is so dirty is better to remove and clean. Also depends on brand, my Daikins while not easy to remove are not miserable to take out.

Google cleaning mini split blower wheel, mine need to be done at least once a year. If they are not bad, I clean them in place, cruddy and I remove the bower wheel to clean.

I have a LG dual inverter window unit in my RV and would be very happy with it in the house. However they do not come with heat and I do use heat on rare occasion. I might use the heat 15 or 20 times in the winter and the electric bill barely goes up heating with the minis.

Yes minis are for the most part disposable, some of that comes from incompetent gas and go techs. Some of it from over regulation of the industry.

The cheapest mini split cleaning in my area is $120 to $250 per unit, I have 3 separate units. I see a pro on You tube clean a mini including removing and cleaning the blower wheel in an hour.

It is not just me with a problem, there are thousands of videos and posts online about mini blower wheels with mold problems.

No crawl, house is CBS built in 86, all new windows and doors. Minimal insulation.

I live in FL it is a swamp. After doing some research the plastic used in the blower wheel is porous and a perfect home for mold. Nothing in the mini evaporator gets mold on it except for the wheel.. People who seem knowledgeable claim it is common in draw through AC designs.

I have taken the blower wheel out and now have bought the sprayer and bag. The issue I have now is my minis are mounted up high, I am 78 and I can see getting up and down a ladder is not going to be happening much longer.

Heard from tech I had here, he said the original board has been superseded and the replacement board is not available so will have to be manufactured.
