    Buying a used Snap-On toolbox

Just buy the box. Remove serial numbers. This isn't a firearm, it's an overpriced storage box—no serial, no repossession.

6lb, 3 5/16" open end wrench. For fire hydrants?

    Dairy farm wrench probably.

SUNEX Switches Impact Socket Sets to China, Increases Prices

I have warrantied several hex allen impact sockets, my new 8mm, 10mm, 5/16'', and 3/8'' are doing the job, the new ones look very similar to the new Harborfreight ones, though still slightly different at a detailed glance.

    Flush Cut End Nippers

Imagine using a $65 pair of pliers for a flush cut when these exist for $3 and do the same job and take up less space. https://www.amazon.com/OXOX-Clippers-Toenail-Fingernail-Stainless/dp/B0C7WJWRZL/?tag=atomicindus08-20 Some folks take pride in wasting their money, I'll take the cheaper...

    The end of Starrett

It is a shame since I think of Starrett as an American heritage company, being almost 150 years old, we lose part of our culture as a nation when these old companies and institutions go under. I know the brand name will continue but what the brand means to folks will change.

    Snap on tools

Snap-on pliers, notably 415CP and 915CP are worse now than they used to be. Granted, we abuse the snot out of them, grabbing/twisting/prying/etc, they have a much shorter service life needing a warranty nearing every 6 months where the old ones would last years. They tend to fail when...

Air compressor tripping breaker with black and white wires not connected! Please help me make sense of this!?

Use a multimeter to check the start and run capacitors, this does require breaking the circuit so mark and label. You want the microfarads to be within 10% range of the rating listed on the canister. The second step is to verify the mechanical switch isn't stuck open, it is designed to open...

Tools I'd like to see made

Pass-through Air/Electric ratchet that would allow up to M24 to pass through the socket. It's a niche use case, no market but it would save so much time when you have stupid long threaded rod.

Is this a fake sunex wrench

I bought a backup 1/2DR 3/8 Allen impact socket. Compared to my original, its different all around, even the machining was different from the old version. Sunex is going the route of gearwrench unfortunately. Quality Taiwanese brand to China. Old stock Sunex will be around for a while but...

    Tools of Japan

The trick with any electronics that have thread locker, heat up a soldering iron, press against the head of the screw, and wait for it to heat up, then loosen.

    Tools of Japan

Beware of blood blisters! I ended up giving my Merry screw pliers away to a coworker. Every time I used them, I had more blisters. Take modern plier designs for granted I suppose.

    Baldor motor with Grease fittings?

Wipe dust and debris off of the grease port, put screwdriver tip to the outside of the bearing housing, pump grease til you hear noise frequency change. Sometimes it doesn't take much at all on smaller motors, bigger ones take a lot more. If bearings are sealed, greasing is pointless and if...

    The future of auto repair

I like the ideas and technology behind EVs, I think EVs are inevitable for those living in urban environments. That said, I simply can't stand the culture of EVs. I can't stand the people pushing EVs on us. I can't stand the people adopting to EVs. I can't stand society in general tbh.

    The future of auto repair

Gearbox has oil. Gearboxes don't last forever, they wear just like everything else. Bearings generally are not designed to run past 5,000 RPM, they will fail and need replacing. There's no such thing as zero maintenance machines. Unless you want to run it till it dies then replace it with...

    Hand Impact Driver Recommendations

Have the Koken 4112G, works well on slotted and phillips screws and smaller fasteners. Tried using it for some really stubborn allen heads, thinking the downward jarring and impact would be the ticket, the over-molding tears your hands up, talking crazy rug burn. If I had to do it again, I would...

    Stick welding

I'm most comfortable with TIG welding, it's similar to oxy/acetylene welding, you just get a puddle much faster with a lot less heat going into the part. Stick welding is fine with new electrodes held in proper heated storage, but running decade-old rod on critical repair work is a nightmare.

Drill Doctor 750X - Sharpening Large Bits............

Drill doctor doesn't put enough relief behind the cutting edge. I use the drill doctor for trueing up the drill geometry then add more relief by hand afterward.

Whatcha doing for organizing c-clip pliers?

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-mE6AA2BGXocauESfOxDswvxYHXP7iYj/view?usp=sharing Old pic, elastic bands break after a while and the rubber damages the vinyl grip portion of the plier, have since switched to zip ties.
