    Engine stand build

I needed more reasons to avoid working on the racecar yesterday, so I decided I needed another engine stand. I picked up some casters from princess auto, and the rest was steel from around the shop. For less then $50 invested, it will do just fine.

    25x40 race shop

So, I am two and a half years late posting this..... but, after years of seeing everyone's shops on here and dreaming of having my own, I finally got that wish. That was two and a half years ago now. Since then, I have upgraded security, converted to led lights, built a material storage rack...

    Parts washer question

I picked up a used 20 gal parts washer today. $40 and needs a pump. I stopped at princess auto on the way home and grabbed a pump. As I ripped it apart, I started to get bad ideas about re engineering it. Here is my though; the pump currently sits in a housing inside the work area. This means...

OTC brake fluid tester, is it a good tool?

we use them at work. for the money they are ok. we only seem to get about 6-8 months out of them at best, but for under $30, you cant expect more (keep in mind it gets used on every oil change in a busy 6 bay shop)

who makes this husky tool box?

I need a new ball bearing slide for my Husky tool box, so I go to home depot. apparently its not that easy. They give me a 1-800 number to call. The person on the phone informs me that many diffrent manufacturers have built for husky over the years, and I would need to find our who it was, and...

    Pipe bender dies, which size?

depends what your doing. I work on race cars, so I do just fine with a 1 3/4" 90 degree and a 1" 180 degree. I found that mike green 4x4 was cheaper for protool dies then dealing with protool directly

Any Menonite or Amish builders in S/Ontario?

like people have said already, i'd start asking around smaller building supply stores (Home Hardware stores) in the st jacobs, stratford and elmira areas. I am sure there out there, they just dont advertise on the internet or in the yellow pages...

Detatched garage over basement. Anyone have any experience with this?

the basement sounds very costly. why not build and attached garage. in many areas, a covered breezeway is enough to count as attached. this would get away from the rules of an out building. you could go two stories, with the man cave upstairs. This would probably be alot cheaper then a basement

    Built-it-myself tools/machines - show us what you've done

Heres the bender I built. I started with plans from Gottrikes, then made a few changes along the way. Not including the bending dies, I have about $300 invested (about $800 including 2 sets of Pro Tool dies). Its already paid for itself. I was Luckey enough to have a friend who could lazer cut...

    Built-it-myself tools/machines - show us what you've done

This is the welding cart I built a while ago. I wanted something more ridgid then those cheap ones you can buy, and I wanted larger wheels for when I have to go out in the gravel driveway or over an extention cord or air line. works great so far.

    Sharpie Markers

I have them all over the shop. most are the normal black, but I have never really tried other colors yet. I also use whiteout pens alot too. there great for writing down all my chassis specs right on the frame of the race car, or even sizing and pressures right on the tires
